Great place to visit, especially in a hot summer day. It was very cold and rainy in Istanbul during my visit, but this place took my breath away nevertheless.

“go see if you have the time”

This was a very interesting tangent to our tour -- it is an ancient water storage system. Kind of spooky but very cool with the lights, etc. I wish there were more displays about the history of the cistern, but it is very enjoyable.

“Waterworks of old”

A marvel of engineering and construction. Hard to believe the age and fact it was unknown for years. A relaxing walk around and a vital part of Istanbul's existence. Worth the visit!

“Very interesting”
Reviewed March 1, 2014

Stopped by this site on our last day in town. It was really cool. The fee is 10TL to enter. It appears that there is handicapped access through the exit--- kind of unique in Europe. This is totally worth your 30 minutes of time. The only reason that I'm giving this site 4 instead of 5 stars is the fact that they've totally touristed it out. There are people dressed up like sultans and such constantly chirping about getting your picture taken with them near the front entrance. It was so annoying and I couldn't walk fast enough to the other side of the cistern.
