“Historic”

The 10TL entry fee is worth it if you like dark and damp places - I loved it! Only gripe was the loud groups of tourists with their tour guides who shout and spoil the atmosphere. Put me off young German people somewhat.

“Waterworld”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2013

After doing a tour of Turkey and seeing the palaces and mosques we decided that a must do was the Cistern - wanted to see how water was stored and to expereince an underground world. It is close to the otehr major sites, mosques and easy to locate. On entry you find yourself in anotehr world - would be perfect for musical events. The boardwalk makes it easy to get through the various areas. A bit cooler than outside and almost mystical. Fish in the shallow waters and the lighting gives it a majestic atmosphere. The Medusas are almost at the end of the walkways - two of them - rather beautiful. There is a small cafe and tourist shop by the entrance/exit. Worth the visit just to see a piece of history and ingenious architecture nad engineering. Underground world an interesting challenge for photos.

I really enjoyed visiting the Basilica Cistern. It has a very interesting history and walking along the underground chamber which was lit up with lights was great! Seeing the upside-down head of Medusa was also a lot of of fun!
