The istanbul archaeology museum is a very good place to visit for adults and children. The chiodren were very much interested in the history of the egyptians. They were excited to learn and were not bored. I would recommend this place to everyone, especially families.

The museum is not impressive. It has a big collection, probably there are some artifacts, but a part of the museum is closed for renovation. The most impressive things are tomb of Alexander the Great and artifacts from Mesopotamian culture.

This is a must see in Istanbul. The building and art is something to behold. A magnificent tourist attraction. When in Istanbul you should try and find a way to visit this attraction.

Being a fan of pretty tiles the mosaique part was my favorite but the museum offers so many different exhibitions and there is so much to see and learn about the citys great history. The yard and the different bildnings are beautiful and all the statues and pillars "lying around" create a very special atmosphere. It is calm and relaxing. I recommend everyone to go here when in Istanbul.

There are many wonderful exhibits in this museum, as others have remarked. Yes, it is undergoing renovation, but some of the buildings are open for viewing. Over thousands of years, this region has brought the eastern and the western cultures together, has hosted the magnificent buildings of the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires to the present, and has maintained its importance during all periods of history, all represented in some way in the museum.

The most interesting exhibit I saw is that uncovered in about 2004 for the building of a major subway station at Yenikapi, on the Marmara. This excavation uncovered the harbor of Byzantium and a treasure trove of objects, including 36 boats. Some of the vessels and their cargo are on display and offer a rich guide to medieval life around the Mediterranean Sea.
It has been reported that this is the most comprehensive archaeological excavation ever related to the history of İstanbul. The harbor and the Yenikapı shipwrecks, dating from the 7th to 11th centuries, are a fascinating find and worth the trip!

I hope the museum will continue to develop this exhibit.
