Interesting museum, gives you very good overview of history of civilizations that once thrived in what is now Turkey. We could not see all of the museum, as part of it currently closed for renovations.

The tomb of Alexander The Great is worth the visit alone .... but there is so much to be explored in this museum. Quiet and jaw-dropping

Housed in three buildings, this is a treasure trove of historical artifacts from numerous eras. The entrance fee of 10 Turkish liras is cheap considering the number of artifacts you will see inside. Plan to spend about three hours to appreciate the exhibits. To see and read all in-depth would require more time.
This is the best archaeology museum I have visited. To gain a better understanding of Turkey, its history and culture, a visit to this place is a must.

This place should be the magical keyhole before you let yourself get lost in İstanbul and Anatolia.
Its like a small resume of the whole human history with all its glory even the buildings and displays need a strong makeover if not a total renovation.
London, Paris, New York museums have much more glamour with much less items than this museum.
They obviously have tons of "stars" in museum from Trojan treasures to Alexander Sarcophagus. Yet they should be displayed the way they deserve. The museum itself looks like its stuck in early 70's and this rush the visitor to leave the building as soon as they see some articles. There is no surprise effect nor any adventure feeling of exploring novelties ....
However as i said earlier this is where to start your own adventure to İstanbul and Anatolia.
