Owner description: Besides its importance as the first Turkish museum, it remains one of the world's largest museums with over one million works. Opened to the public in 1891, it houses a collection of Greek, Roman and Byzantine artifacts.

This museum is located right near Topkapi Palace. You can purchase your tickets online for the actual cost and save yourself some time.

3 large buildings. Alot to take in and see. Alot of stairs too. Restrooms are at the back.

Outside, there is a nice cafe which overlooks a pretty park to rest your feet after alot of walking and standing here.

We were there about 3 hours. All good.

If you have time do go to this group of 3 museums. The little tiled pavillion has some wonderful ceramics inside. The main museum is full of treasures including finds from Troy and an excellent explanation about the site. It took a whole morning to go round. OK cafe

We stopped by here for what we were told was a short museum visit...

WHAT'S TO SEE
there appeared to be 3 buildings to visit (1. main museum with Egyptian, Lebanese and Turkish artifacts, 2. a small building with a few ceramics/pottery, and 3. a building housing most prehistoric artifacts).

TIMING
Took my wife and i 1.5hrs to quickly walk through by ourselves.

ADMISSION
10 TL per person

POV
recommend skipping this attraction if you prefer touring the mosques around Istanbul as there are simply lots of tombs laid out (to put it bluntly). if you're a history buff who likes artifacts i'd rate this a 6-out-10 still... it's a fragmented collection of items gathered together.

The museum is really amazing, with a great collection. Take at least half day to visit the whole place.

The section on graves and epitaphs was excellent as well as the exhibits from Troy (which we had visited a few days earlier). The museum is huge however and even avid arch/history buffs would struggle to take all this in
