“Took ages to find it”

And, when I did finally see it I couldn't believe that I'd missed it as it stands out by being so high, just up from the River.

Lovely tiles and so peaceful.

“A little gem in a fascinating neighborhood”
Reviewed October 27, 2013

We walked here from the Great Mosque on a Saturday - didn't see the warnings until later. It was great fun but if you are claustrophobic, try to see this Mosque on another day! It has a different layout to others and is much quieter and peaceful. The tiles are beautiful and when you come out, you can snack your way down the street stopping for pide, deli items and lacoum - and that is before you get to the spice bazaar!

“Visit this and the Spice Market at the same time”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

Located above the Egyptian or Spice Market in Sultanahmet (district Eminonu) this mosque, is known for its outstanding tile. Using many different designs of blue and white with touches of red, the tiled walls of this mosque gives it a different feel from many of the others. It is a little gem.

“Lost and found :)”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

We were lost in the spice bazaar trying to find the Suleymaniye mosque, when one of the shopkeepers whom we asked for directions suggested that we also stop by Rustem Pasha mosque that happens to be right in front of his shop :)
We wouldn't have ever guessed that there's a mosque in this place, the entrance is really easy to miss.
He told us that this mosque is pretty different than all the other mosques because of the tiles used to decorate it. And he was right, it is quite small compared to the others , but definitely different, even the atmosphere inside was different, and the tiles were so beautiful.
Don't wait till you get lost in the spice market to visit this mosque, plan ahead, and go !!

“One of my favourite sites in Istanbul;gorgeous tiles”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

I enjoyed my visit here much more than my visit to the more famous Blue Mosque.

It is on a smaller scale and there are fewer visitors. We arrived just after reopening after the lunchtime closure.

The tiles are gorgeous and , unlike the Blue Mosque you can get right up close to admire them.

As with other mosques, ladies remember to take a head covering like a scarf and dress modestly although they do have loan items for this purpose.
