Owner description: This enormous palace was the Imperial residence of Ottoman sultans for almost 400 years. Although much of the palace is not accessible, the daily tours of the Harem are of great interest to tourists.

Once inside the palace, the reminiscences of olden days get refreshed. One may visualize and enjoy the thoughts about the period when the palace must be having all the grace and dignity.
Overlooking both Marmara and Bosphorus, its one of the prime tourist attractions and a historic monument having numerous things to see and appreciate including Ottoman era architecture, museum, holy relics, courtyards, the harem, the mosques, hospital, bakeries and the mint areas etc.
Any tourist visiting Istanbul for the first time should never miss the visit at any cost.

It was amazing to stroll around and imagine how the Sultan was chilling his luxurious life here. The view on the city is amazing. Expect only strolling around of 2-3 hours, it is really big.

We didn't get a chance to go inside the palace but we walked around the gardens and had coffee and tea on top of the hill overlooking Istanbul. It was a great view, though our drinks were a bit pricey.

Very beautiful and charming inside. Make sure you go when it's not freezing cold outside because there is a lot of walking around the courtyards and even inside. Also there are no pictures allowed inside the displays which kind of defeats the purpose of going, but totally understandable. By mistake on the first view exhibits I started taking pics on my phone and the security warned me and laughed as if to say its ok you did a mistake. Very friendly !

Try the audio tour right after you enter the Topkapi Palace for 15TL. They give you a device that you wear and punch in the numbers of the exhibits as you pass them by. Totally worth the 15TL. They keep a photo as deposit. Not worth getting a travel guide. I saw too many groups being rushed around and not allowed to take photos because the guide was in a rush to wrap everything up.

Also a lot of stairs to climb and strollers are not allowed inside the exhibit areas. So not very kid friendly, especially in the winter.
