Owner description: This enormous palace was the Imperial residence of Ottoman sultans for almost 400 years. Although much of the palace is not accessible, the daily tours of the Harem are of great interest to tourists.

The thing to see in the old city, despite the lure of the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia. The Topkapi Palace is a huge collection of buildings, influenced by many different centuries of architectural design and cultural needs, and will eat up your day very quickly indeed. Ensure you visit the Harem for some of the most stunning examples but, be warned, if your are as OCD as I am about things like symmetry and planned patternation, then some of the decor will have your mind screaming in frustration - it's one cultural barrier I'll never be able to break down!

A terrific attraction though, so don't miss it.

I wasn't really sure what to expect at the Topkapi Palace and was completely unprepared for the scale of it, and also for the lavish jewels and treasures. The visit to the harem (not included in the entry ticket) was well worth the additional cost.

This is the power house. You can see the swords, the clocks, the riches and the harems. This is a not to miss place because of its historic significance.

We had to queue for about half an hour, didn't mind too much as it was a lovely day. But it was well worth the wait to see the incredible wealth of jewels on show!

This place has wonderful treasure to show in a wonderfull architecture but I was expected better organization for the price... It's over crowded, no real visit direction, have to queue everywhere and things are barely presented....
