The aromas and colors and sounds and activity let you know you're not home (unless you live in Istanbul). I love the overwhelming experience of it all. A completely different palate from our western tastes and wonderful

We walked there from Sultanahmet which took us about 25 minutes and it was really disappointing after a long walk in the heat.

It's basically a smaller version of the grand bazaar but I found that people hassled you even more there. We only stayed about 20 minutes before we just got fed up and left.

I imagined the whole market would be spices but there's loads of the tourist rubbish they sell everywhere else (jeans, fake designer bags etc.)

Definitely just stick to the Grand Bazaar because this place really isn't worth a visit.

This has been my favourite market to wonder through in Istanbul. You will find everything for your cooking needs here. Although the prices are higher in the market then they are on the side streets (which is the best for all your shopping needs in Istanbul) it is quite an experience to wonder the halls of this market and taste what all the venders are selling. If you do decide to purchase something in the market remember it is a market and you can bargain with them.

BOTTOM LINE: Good place to start your journey through the markets of Istanbul but do not forget to wondering a little further through the side streets cause there are some really gems there and if feels more authentic.

Although we can get as much of the same spices back home, we still find it a good place to shop especially for some hard to find items like Saffron. Just like any other market there are so many stalls selling the same goods but different in price and perhaps quality as well. We actually went there twice on different day after deciding what we need and having shop around a bit. We bought several type of spices inside the market and some figs from a stall just outside the gate. We find that stalls frequented by the locals are usually better priced and of good quality. It is worth visiting for anyone who loves to cook!
