Undoubtably the best sight-mosque in Istanbul. Please make sure you read about it prior to your visit, the history behind it is huge and amazing, but sometimes the museum and the guides there mislead you. Don't mind the work-in-progress throughout the entire site, it's essential.

Don't just because it's a must-see, the history behind it it's what matters and what will leave you in awe. Make sure to carefully see everything and have a guide in your language, don't just read the labels.

This is one of the place not to missed while in Istanbul. I wish we could enter this magnificent place on Monday when is closed and there are no people. The scale of its dome is breathtaking.

You can't say enough about the Roman architects. As our guide noted, 1000 years after Hagia Sophia was built, the Turks couldn't figure out how to duplicate the floating dome when building the Blue Mosque. It is so unusually light and bright given it's age, and the history of two major religions under one roof is unique. We only had a short visit, but I am so happy not to have missed it on my first trip (I hope not my last) to Istanbul.

The Ayasofia (Hagia Sophie) is the most historical place in whole Istanbul. See the gigantic (maybe a bit too) green shields with the names of former sultans and enjoy the Chatholic mosiacs at the gallery (2nd floor).
Also take a closer look at the little crypthe near the marmer Gate to Heaven (audio tour nr. 35).

Ok so even though there are some things closed off, which is a shame, and structures holding up the dome preventing an unobstructed view, this is STILL a MUST do. There's plenty to look at and most of it ridiculously beautiful. Go at the opening hours to miss the crowds
