“Must see !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2013 via mobile

The visit to Hagia Sophia was definately one of the highlights of our visit to Istanbul. Make sure you get an (audio)guide to get a better understanding of the history of this place. The whole place is really impressive, even with a large part being under repairs. Interesting to see the mix of christian and muslim influences, with previously covered mosaics as highlight.
A must see in Istanbul

“Great spiritual expirience”

First it was christian church, than mosque, and today it's museum. Inside it looks as a church, outside it looks as a mosque. It is huge and it is must see!

I loved looking at the shiny mosaics and learning the history of the church, turned mosque, turned museum.

“Most beautiful”

This was probably our favorite building in Istanbul. From the stunning Byzantine architecture, to the most beautiful golden mosaics and the huge discs of Islamic Calligraphy. It was more than impressive, we loved it!

“Impressive building, but poor visiting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2013

This church has an impressive dome. It is amazingly beautiful and its décor is pleasant.

However, as most of places we've visited in Istanbul, it lacks more objects, more history, more explanations. It has no indications about its history, what makes necessary an audio guide or a tourist guide.

I recommend this place. But arrive early in the morning or between 12:30pm - 1:30pm. Otherwise, be prepared for hours of line waiting. Another good option is the museum pass card...
