“An experience not to be missed”
Reviewed March 23, 2013 via mobile

We spent the afternoon wandering in and around the Grand Bazaar. I really don't have anything to compare it too! The architecture was stunning, the stalls - even the most touristy ones - we're interesting to check out, great people watching, crowded but not claustrophobic. We plan to return later in the week!

“Beware when you buy stuff”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

Really nice place to explore. Quite interesting and enjoyable experience. If you plan to buy something, keep in mind that many shop owners will start with double or even triple the price at which they are willing to sell. So you need to be a good at bargaining!

“Worthwhile experience”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

This is a worthwhile experience, especially if you make sure to look at the architecture as well as the stalls. The sellers are friendly but less insistent than in countries like Egypt. They and other shopkeepers seem less keen to haggle these days and we got the impression that Turkey like other places has been hit by inflation. Best buys were from the spice stalls, especially the saffron.

“Shopping, yes, but also look up”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

You can buy all that stuff elsewhere in Istanbul, but the cool part of the Grand Bazaar is the building itself with the arched ceilings. A bit of a maze to get around and you have to kick the salesmen off you, but it was fun to explore.

“Outside worth a look, inside not great”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

It is good to see the immense size of the building with it's entry gates etc, but the content is a let down as a tourist site - probably best left to the locals. The Egyptian Bazaar is much more atmospheric.
