Owner description: Built between 1609-1616, this impressive mosque has six minarets. Why is it called "Blue Mosque?" There are two stories: the first, more common one is that the interior is covered in Blue İznik tiles. The second is: Many years ago, ancient sailors who sailed by the mosque on the Marmara Sea saw the blue colors of the sea reflected in the mosque.

I sincerely recommend this historical attraction. It is breath taking place. You have to respect some rules (you can not enter in shoes, women must have scarf on their head). Camera is allowed.

“Simply Beautiful”
Reviewed February 9, 2014

The visit here was very moving. The mosque itself is beyond description. The entrance fee includes headscarves for women and sarong type coverings for those who find their dress code lacking. These items are free of charge and are collected upon leaving. Pictures are allowed but please be mindful of prayer hours. The beauty of this mosque is truly a Turkish national treasure. Please make sure to visit.

“It's nice... But it's sill in use”
Reviewed February 9, 2014

The blue mosque is still in use, and the time we were allowed to enter coincided with prayer time. I felt it slightly awkward that there were hoards of tourists snapping photos visiting a "tourist attraction" while the locals were trying to seek spiritual time.

It's nice inside but not comfortable; I'd recommend the Ayasofia (which isn't a practising mosque thus allowing tourist to roam at their leisure). We stayed for no more than few minutes and left. If you decide to visit, make sure to cover up your knees, shoulders or head; alternatively, they provide shawls and wraps at the entry.

“must see!”
Reviewed February 9, 2014

This is definitely the one thing in Istanbul not to miss. Words really can't describe how beautiful it is when you get inside. It is definitely the most beautiful mosque I have ever seen.
They provide little bags for you to put your shoes in and I would advise for women to take their own scarf to cover their heads. It was a lovely experience.

“Unbelievably beautiful”
Reviewed February 9, 2014

This mosque is adorned with thousands of decorated blue tiles, creating the most impressive display you can imagine. You can only visit (it's free!!) outside prayer times, so check the times on the door. You must wear a shawl over your head (women) and carry your shoes in a plastic bag. It has a great atmosphere and calmness, it's mesmerising looking at all the patterned tile! Excellent.
