Owner description: Built between 1609-1616, this impressive mosque has six minarets. Why is it called "Blue Mosque?" There are two stories: the first, more common one is that the interior is covered in Blue İznik tiles. The second is: Many years ago, ancient sailors who sailed by the mosque on the Marmara Sea saw the blue colors of the sea reflected in the mosque.

“Look Up at the Domes”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

Photographers should bring wide-angle lenses to take in all the domes that dominate the ceiling. The experience was marred somewhat by the huge crowds in August of worshippers and cruise-ship tour groups. Non-believers were made to line up on the sunny side of the mosque for about 30 minutes before entry was permitted. Then we were limited in access to one side of the mosque and unable to see some important aspects of the mosque. Given the historical significance of the Blue Mosque, it is something you will see, although the experience will not measure up to that of other sights.

“Totally worth a visit”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

It was quite busy at daytime, but totally worth the visit. It was much more beautiful inside than I had imagined. All the details, just lovey!
