Owner description: Built between 1609-1616, this impressive mosque has six minarets. Why is it called "Blue Mosque?" There are two stories: the first, more common one is that the interior is covered in Blue İznik tiles. The second is: Many years ago, ancient sailors who sailed by the mosque on the Marmara Sea saw the blue colors of the sea reflected in the mosque.

Words can't describe how beautiful this Mosque is. It is hard to describe how immense and stately it is. This whole area is delightful to stroll though and just enjoy all that Istanbul has to offer.

This is what everyone thinks of when you think of Istanbul and now I know why. This is the icon and is such a beautiful place to see in person. Looking at it from every direction as you move around the grounds is just looks so impressive.

loved the inside decoration but the place was being renovated which had led to poor photo opportunities to capture the beauty of the sealing.

Totally different from a church. The environment is clean of images, only the blue tiles and the massive columns. My girl couldn't stop crying and we are not even muslims. The atomosphere is peaceful and excellent to clean your mind. Must go 5 times!!!! Wonderful... Harikahhhh!!!!

For fellow Muslims or those travelers interested in sharing with a very important holiday celebration, this would be the best place to see locals and their traditions.
