Owner description: Built between 1609-1616, this impressive mosque has six minarets. Why is it called "Blue Mosque?" There are two stories: the first, more common one is that the interior is covered in Blue İznik tiles. The second is: Many years ago, ancient sailors who sailed by the mosque on the Marmara Sea saw the blue colors of the sea reflected in the mosque.

“A must!”

It's one of the things you have to see in Istanbul! It's such a fantastic building, but respect their traditions and prayer times (then it's closed for visitors).

“My first mosque ever and the best!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2013

I was always quite afraid to go into mosques before when I went to Ankara ( maybe because so many people were staring at me..) but this mosque has been my first mosque. The tiles and insides are so magnificent. So calm inside even though with loads of people inside. The outside of the building were also marvellous. I brought my own socks and scarf to wear inside, as you have to take your shoes of and cover yourselves.

“Out of this world”

It is amazing. Simple.
The look and feel of the place, the architecture and design.
Wow.
Just dont go there during the prayer times and ensure appropriate dressing when visiting.
