We ate here our first night in Istanbul. It's a small little unassuming place but warm and comforting, and served some of the best food we had in Istanbul. No alcohol is available, but don't let this put you off - GO! I loved it and know I will be back.

The food here is traditional turkish with a western/restauranty flair and presentation. The chef/owner does like go around showing off his dishes as they are cooked to order, so much that we wanted the same delicious looking deserts he made for the couple next to us.

For the money you can't beat Can Oba, I had a gorgeous lemon sauce salmon main course, freshly grilled and beautifully presented, worthy of a more upmarket restaurant. Soup/starters were tasty, mains are great value for money and the deserts are more western than traditional, but I have to give credit for the chocolate berry mousse in a chocolate shell, it was so good we could have eaten two of them!

We wanted to come back for another visit but sadly they were closed on Sundays. Boo hoo. One of the best value for money and best meals we had in the old city.

This is a very small restaurant that we discovered by chance. Slightly different decoration from the surrounding ones and a very nice men (the owner) who spoke english and cooked a very good pieces of food for us. Good taste, good presentation of the plates.
Nice "marrons" (chataignes) soup - only available in october.
Very good lasanha with spinach and goat cheese.
Cheap (<25 Lyrae) - No wine or beer (near a mosque, no alcohol)

The chef of Can Oba is a character that makes your dinner a unique experience. He is an artist passionate about his cuisine and manages to propose delicious meals at affordable prices. We went there twice and had an amasing time, watching photos of his creations on his mobile phone and tasting meals that we have not found anywhere else. We have been offered tea, starters, chocolate, we made pictures and locals are going there too. We definitively recommend the place, you will leave happy.
