“A unique place in historical peninsula”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

Can Oba is a really unique place among all the domestic food serving restaurants on the Hocapaşa street.Chef Can Oba which worked for a Michelin star restaurant in Germany turned back to home and serving really Europian style food with traditional and delicious Turkish Kebaps. He is a lovely and friendly man , I enjoyed chatting with him. Lasagna with goat cheese and spinach was fantastic.Oruk Kebap, which you can find in a few restaurant in İstanbul was very delicious too.Instead of eating in tourist trap restaurants, it would be a good choice to eat in Can Oba in a friendly atmosphere and cheap prices.

“Great Restaurant”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

A nice little restaurant with a great hospitality. Friendly and helpful waiters and the owner of the restaurant made our first minutes in this city quite enjoyable. Food is local, tasty and good quality. One big surprise...the home made chocolat...a real party!!!

“Worth looking for...”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

On our way from the Topkapi Palace to Spice Market we looked for this restaurant and it was not very easy to find. Very unassuming, tucked away from the main street. The service was outstanding! We ordered mixed grill which was delicious and tender. They were also very accommodating to our vegetarian request and charged less than half price of the regular meal for taking the meat out. Freshly squeezed pomegranate juice was excellent. Tiramisu to die for. Left them great tip and they wouldn't let us leave without complementary apple teas. They also helped us find the Spice Market going with us down the street to show us the way. Must visit!

“Great little find”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

Just round the corner from Sirceki Station and our hotel, the Levni, is this terrific little restaurant. Seating just 16 people inside, and roughly the same number outside, delicious food is produced from a tiny charcoal grill kitchen at the front of the restaurant. Everything we saw come out of the kitchen looked simple but delicious. As soon as we were seated some hot pide from the grill with a spicy tomato salsa was given to us 'on the house'. From the menu we both chose their house special kebab. Sitting on a base of smoky grilled Auvergne pulp mixed with yoghurt were two spiced kofta kebabs and chunks of chargrilled beef fillet, served with hot pide. Absolutely delicious! For dessert we shared 'vanilla sauce on broken ice' which translates into a thick vanilla sauce with chunks of vanilla ice cream adorned with toasted almond slivers and sultanas. Service is friendly and efficient, although being a small concern they are run off their feet and they forgot to bring the salad we ordered with our main. It didn't spoil it for us. They don't sell any alcohol, just water, soft drinks, coffee and tea. We've found Istanbul to be expensive for dining, but this place offers terrific value. Our bill translated into about £25 for the two of us, and we left full to the brim and very happy.
