After the best meze platter we had in Istandbul we were served two delicious meals (one vegetarian, the other a kind of turkish ravioli) by an exceptionally friendly staff. The wine came in a drinking glass but was also very good (I think there was no choice, they only have one sort of red wine). All in all for two persons: 100 TL

To summarize:
* Small
* Friendly
* Delicious food
* Not expensive for what you get (but there might be cheaper places)

We were there on August 30th, on our last night of our vacation in Istanbul. The place from
outside looks very nice, not touristic, but there is no menu to find out the food or the prices. Only a blackboard inside with some plates. The food was nice, the wine was really good but .... the price of 1/2 kg was 45TL! At least that was what we had to pay and fortunatelly we didnt have to because the lady who owns the place asked us to leave the restaurant without paying the fantastic amount for two glasses of wine. I think there is a fix price (80-90TL) for two persons, and she wants to get it one way or the other. For us it was the price of wine... Anyway, it could have been a nice last night out but it tunred out a big dissappointment... Definately not reccomented.

The food here is exceptional - a really quirky place with so many exciting and delicious dishes that you could only want to demand recipes and return for seconds.

We had 5 days in Istanbul and this was the best meal we had by some margin - the meze platter was delicious, mains very tasty and the desserts sweet but balanced by the Turkish coffee. A carafe of red wine (local) was excellent. Our waitress was very friendly and informative about the spicing and content of the various dishes. After trawling around numerous areas and being somewhat disappointed by the repetitive nature of the menus this was a welcome change and we could recommend it wholeheartedly.

My husband and I discovered Acik Mutfak because we were staying around the corner and we noticed the food when we walked by. We were not disappointed! The menu is slightly different every day and once an option is sold out, it's gone. This was definitely the first sign of the freshness of the food. The waitress was very sweet and explained everything to us. We should've ordered the mixed meze plate as a starter because of the variety, but we had some couscous and a carrot-yoghurt puree instead, which was also really good. My husband ordered some chicken and I had the vegetarian stuffed aubergine and both were so delicious. The restaurant's atmosphere is really welcoming and cozy and they played some really good jazz. This was definitely one of our favorite restaurants in Istanbul and we would definitely go back!
