“Great location, wonderful terrace and excellent hosts”

We stayed for 9 nights the last week of October and highly recommend this apartment to couples or a family with one child.
The apartment as others have said if off the hallway of the owner's apartment but feels totally separate. It has everything you need apart from a lounge area but this did not trouble us as we either sat on the wonderful terrace or in the kitchen staring out at the sea and sites.
The beds are extremely comfy which was needed after lots of walking, the stairs are not an issue as small flights and if you don't like hills (small hike) then get a taxi from the ferry as they are very cheap. The area is excellent with bakeries and a supermarket on the doorstep and we really enjoyed staying on the Asian side as it is so quiet and the 10 min ferry ride to the tourist side is a great way to start the day. Also check out Kadikoy for fantastic restaurants and great scene.
Thanks to Bahri and family for the gorgeous cakes and the trip to the English cemetery and old world station, also for driving us to the metro to get our flight. We had such a fantastic time in Istanbul and at the apartment so definitely recommend.

“Far from the madding tourists”
Reviewed September 12, 2015 for a stay in September 2015

There are many advantages in staying at this location. The owner and his wife are delightful as is the rest of his family. Relaxing on the balcony for breakfast or in the evening is sheer delight. The location in Uskudar is far from the hustle of tourist areas which have tourists crowds, tourist prices, tourist touts etc. Literally metres from the from door are an excellent baker, a Migros supermarket, a nice cafe, a chemist, a post office, a source of English language newspapers and so on. Days spent resting can be filled with the interest of every day Turkish life. Commuting to Istanbul sites starts with a ferry ride on the Bosporus and taxis are so cheep as to be an extension of your own private vehicle. The downside is that there is no lift so stairs are a daily challenge however, at 73 I managed well Tip.. Get a taxi from the airport … using everyday transport with suitcases is not the way to go

We loved our stay at Bahris' place near to Harem. What we enjoyed above all was the big rooftop terras which gives great views on the Marmara Sea and on the Bosporus Agia Sofia!!!. Bahris' wife spoiled us with all sorts of food. Bahri took us to the English cemetery.
Just one thing, if going downhill is too hard on your knees, take a cab for 5 or 10 TL down to the Harem ferry. That is what we did. It's a cosy little area up on the hill with a very good kebab restaurant and lots of little bars. I certainly would go back there.

“Lovely apartment and excellent host!”

The apartment is clean and well equipped with everything you could need. It even has a full china teaset which we loved. The roof terrace had wonderful views over the Bosporus to the European side, perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine on the long warm evenings. Bahri was the perfect host, very helpful even to the point of showing us around and dropping us off at our ferry. It's easy and enjoyable to travel over to Sultanahmet should you want to although we spent days exploring the Asian side as it has a more relaxed feel which suited us just fine. Should you want to go to the European side it's a pleasant ten minute walk down a hill and a short cheap ferry crossing which takes you in to the centre of all the Istanbul action!

We were for the 2nd time in this apartment and once again our host Bahri took us from the bus station. It is a clean apartment with a large roof terrace with wonderful flowers. From here you have a magnificent view of the Marmara Sea. Bahri and his wife Nihal live in the same building and are always willing to answer all your questions. Nearby you'll find everything you need, the baker, the grocer and the supermarket. The bus and dolmuş are nearby. It is an ideal starting point to explore the city, within 15 minutes by ferry you stand in the middle of Istanbul. In the evening it is wonderful to have the bustle of the city behind and return to the quiet apartment. Here you will only hear the cries of the gulls.

“Peaceful, comfortable, great views!”

If you'd like to get away from the tourist hustle and bustle in Istanbul, this is the place. Bahri met me at the airport and could not have been more helpful. The flat had everything I needed, and I particularly like super-comfy firm mattress. Of course the main selling point is the flower-lined terrace with wonderful views down to the Bosphorous. It really is as lovely as the photos suggest!
The location, in a quiet residential district on the Asian side, suited me perfectly. There are local shops within a couple of minutes' walk, with prices a fraction of the the tourist shops and bazaars. Try the baklava from the local bakery - you won't be disappointed! It's easy to walk to Uskadar or Kadikoy (about 25 mins downhill to each) or you can jump on a dolmus to either from the end of the road. The nearest ferry port to the flat, Harem, is an easy walk downhill in the morning, but coming back after a long day sightseeing I found the 180 steps followed by a short walk uphill a bit tiring! Fortunately it's easy enough to get the ferry to Kadikoy and get the dolmus up the hill. As a woman travelling alone, I always felt safe, and was very happy to get away from the crowds and have a taste of the real Istanbul.
