“Nice place to stay!”
Reviewed January 30, 2014 via mobile

We stayed for 2 night in this hotel. For the first time it is a bit challenging to find, but once you manage you will find location perfect. It's a bit aside from the hassle of Sultanahmet, yet very close to Blue Mosk and Aya Sofia. Hotel owner speaks perfect English and is really helpful with any kind of information you would need. Hotel itself is located in an old building and has 9 rooms only (good pick if you don't like huge hotels for your private stays).
Breakfast is served in the lobby, is pretty basic, but OK.
Rooms were spotless and quite cozy. You will find all the toiletries, as well as slippers and sponges in the room (pretty high standard for a small family hotel). Bathroom is equipped with a powerful hair drier (definitely a big plus if you have long hair :).
The only weak point we have found is sound isolation - it's quite poor. While the street is very silent, you can hear pretty much what's is going on in the hotel. But, I have to say, we were not disturbed that much.

My girlfriend and me spend in Oba Hotel a great Istanbul weekend. The hotel is very cozy and made with love for the detail. The amount of wooden furniture and decoration give the place a special atmosphere.
The owner is a very nice, friendly and joyful fellow, who can give you a lot of interesting hints for your visit.
Location wise it's good, however not optimal. The Aya Sofiya is only about 10min walking away - unfortunately all the way up hill. Besides, so is the tram...

Small minus are the thin walls. One can basically hear what your neighbours from above whisper...:(

We ve spent 6 beautiful days in Oba Hotel in Istanbul for NYE 2013. We had a great time, the hotel has just few rooms and it is placed in a renovated old istanbul house. the neighborhood is quiet but very central, 5 min. walk to Aya Sophia and Blu Moschee, where you can also catch a tram to reach Kadikoy area in Beyoglu. All the staff is really kind and they helped us on every request and information we needed. Nothing to complain! The only light remarks could be the breakfast, not to consider excellent (but surely good), and noisy rooms due to thin walls (but come on, it s an old Istanbul building, it s worth it!). So definitely a place to suggest if you visit Istanbul for the 1st time.

Oba is perfectly located with wonderfully warm and helpful people. I like its clean and simple rooms as a base for seeing Istanbul.
The floors and walls are very thin - New Year's Eve the people above us seemed like lost elephants. The street is quiet and the location is perfect as soon as you get oriented enough to find it within the small winding streets of the old city

We stayed at the Oba Hotel for five nights over New Year and were very happy with our accommodation. It was our first visit to Istanbul. The hotel is just a few minutes’ walk from all the main sights in the old city, in an area that retains its authentic ‘old Istanbul’ charm. The hotel itself is very comfortable and welcoming, newly renovated and stylishly furnished. It offers lots of nice touches, like Turkish Delight in the bedroom, and plenty of toiletries, that surpass those of many hotels of higher categories. We stayed on the first floor in a room that overlooked the backyard with a view of the nearby mosque. Everything was spotlessly clean, the beds were comfortable (including the large sofa-bed my son slept on), the bathroom small but new, with a great shower. We were never disturbed by any noise from outside or by other guests, and the early “call to prayer” from the mosque is just part of being in Istanbul and, in my opinion, highly evocative. Breakfast was varied and plentiful. The hotel owner Ismail was the perfect host, going out of his way to provide as much information as he could, always ready to answer questions and helping us to get the best from our stay. His English is excellent. Transfers to and from the airport organised through the hotel were excellent. I really hope to return to Istanbul some time, and if I do, I will go back to the Oba Hotel without hesitation.

7 nights I slept in the attic, where all they hear those below and in front of the camera work a carwash that work until 12 o'clock at night. Mosque is 5 meters in front of the camera and 5 am wake up. Someday I ate one serving continental breakfast. Cleanliness is good and room size.Meeting with reception table is together.Very little heat when it is cold.

Despite being in Istanbul during a rare case of snow and wild weather, we experienced a welcoming warmth that only a boutique hotel like Oba could offer. Next time I'm in town, I'll be looking forward to more Turkish tea and chats by the fire!
