coming to the hotel by metro in the evening we were warmly welcomed by the girl at the desk. We got a welcome drink and a lot of information material including map together with tips for touristic attractions.
In principle it is easy to get there by metro but the change from the tram T1 to Metro M2 is a bit different as the maps are showing. You have to walk about 5 minutes from Aksaray south to Yenicapi. Friendly people at the tram stop showed us the way. The stop then on the very new bridge at halic station is right on the middle over the golden horn with tremendous views. For finally getting to the hotel in the south direction we had to cross a main street with much traffic which is a bit stress packed with luggage. Then a few meters left from the bridge is a street and a good lighted sign to the HHK hotel. A minute up the hill round a curve and there it is. The last buildings before reaching the HHK are in a really bad condition but the hotel building itself is like a diamond after that other buildings. The hotel is well secured with video cameras.
We had to ring and were immediately welcomed. My room was very well equipped and looks like a luxury room with a small table and nice stucco everywhere. The bed is perfectly suspended. The bath with a shower is modern with all you need. A large flatscreen was also in the room but I had only 4 nights and preferred to visit Istanbul than to hang up at the TV. And very best of the hotel is the view from the roof top over the golden horn by drinking a beer and relaxing from a long walking day.
Near the hotel down the hill and then left we found a good and cheap snack bar which was enough for the late first evening.
For the way back to airport we decided to book a taxi transfer at the hotel desk. It was cheap with 30Euro and avoided us from crossing the main road with luggage and the way from the Metro to the Tram. It was a large car for us 3 and the driver was very good. Comparing the way by metro / tram with the taxi solution I would say that both are Ok, but the taxi is faster than I thought in before and is more secured but without any adventure.
The whole stay in Istanbul was very fine. We appreciated the very modern metros and trams there but with this location for staying, the way to the attractions in the sultan achmet part can be done by walking through impressing market streets a basars. The asia side can be reached by the new marmara metro under the halic or better by ship. We tried both. Every transport is cheap with about one euro for one trip and the waiting time to the next metro / tram is short also in the evening. We had to buy 3 different chips for the normal tram and metro, the marmara metro and the ferry boat to Üsküdar. But there are always helping service people at the stations. The service is ideal in Istanbul trams and much better than in my home hometown Bremen in Germany.
