“great Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2013

We were sent to this hotel because the was a problem with a gas line in the area of our original hotel. They couldn't have been more helpful. The room was lovely, the location was great. Really could not ask for more.

We found Kumru using Trip Advisor and were glad we did. From my first contact with Melissa I knew this was the type of place we wanted to stay: helpful, authentic, and comfortable. The rooms were just what we needed: clean, efficient, with good beds. Yes, the bathrooms are very small, but that is the way of the world. We were happy to adapt. The rooftop breakfast was hearty, delicious, and accompanied by good, strong coffee and a wonderful view.

We especially appreciated the suggestions and assistance of Melissa and Abdul. We had a few unscheduled days before joining our tour and wanted to see some "non-touristy" aspects of the city. Melissa suggested a wonderful ferry trip up the Golden Horn. Abdul eagerly assisted us in purchasing a metro card for transit.

If you want comfort coupled with great location and helpful insights into Istanbul, stay at Kumru. You will not be disappointed.

We stayed here six nights on our visit to Turkey: three nights on our arrival in Istanbul, three more nights after touring the country. We decided to return to the Kumru upon our return because we were so happy with everything about the hotel: from its location in a quiet neighborhood in the Sultanahmet, to its beautiful new rooms, to the wonderful breakfast we had each morning, but most importantly, to the warmth of Melissa and Abdul and all the staff of the Kumru. They made going out each morning and coming home each night, like leaving our own home. Overall it was a wonderful experience.

Four of us spent 3 nights in Istanbul staying at the Kumru hotel, a clean and modern hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. I can say that all comments we had read on tripadvisor before booking were so similar to our experience. The room & bathroom very clean but a slight problem when showering as it wets the whole bathroom. Breakfast was a vast array of local produce and very good, and having tea & coffee facilities in the room a bonus. We recommend using the hotel taxi firm for airport transfers door to door & not ripped off. Many thanks to Melissa Abdul & your staff.

My wife and I stayed almost a week at this small boutique hotel. The hotel is a 15 minute walk from Blue Mosque. We had a great time here. Melissa (who is originally from U.S) and Abdul were fantastic. They go out of there way to help their guests. For me the most important thing in a hotel is the bed and the cleanliness. These guys have tackled both these items with perfection. The breakfast was very delicious, they serve freshly squeezed orange juice. If you end up staying here dont forget to try the local bread (with spices or toppings) at the small shop across the corner of this street. Two small things I would like them to add to the rooms are tissue box and ice in the fridge. Once again, I would like to say that I would stay at this hotel anytime I visit Istanbul. Thanks for being great hosts, Melissa and Abdul. Good luck with the hotel expansion!

We were so impressed with this boutique hotel, very modern and comfortable apart from a few plumbing problems. Melissa is (I think) a former American and everyone at the hotel was so friendly and helpful. They really want you to have a great stay and were very helpful with advice and with booking taxis and airport transfers. Before our visit they emailed helpful advice on how to find the hotel, an FAQ about Istanbul, and even some restaurant recommendations (Cesme down the road is great).

The hotel is in a non-touristy local neighbourhood where we felt very safe, yet still within easy walking distance of all the major sights and of the Sultanahmet tram stop. We stayed on the top floor in room 403, opposite the enclosed terrace where breakfast is served each morning. Our room was lovely, with a double bed and two singles, quite spacious. My bed was really comfortable, and we also had an air conditioner which we used occasionally when we returned after a day out - it quickly cooled the room down.

We did have a few problems with the plumbing as the water pressure was poor to the top floor, so the toilet didn't like to flush and we couldn't get the shower to work (and 10 minutes to run a 2-inch deep bath). But I mentioned it to Melissa and they got someone to work on the pump right away and after that it was fine (although then water started to leak on the floor behind the toilet). But these were minor problems compared to having such a nice friendly and very clean place to stay.

The breakfast buffet is a generous selection of many Turkish foods, plus lots of jams and different teas. They were happy to look after our bag on our last day in Istanbul, and also arranged our taxi transfer back to the airport.

Wonderful service from hosts Melissa and Abdul who did everyhing they could to make our stay in Istanbul as easy and pleasant as possible. We could not have asked for more. We got they impression that they would make a genuine effort to help with any request.
Comfortable, clean and light filled rooms. Great showers with reliable hot water.
Breakfasts with a very good selection of delicious Turkish and some western foods.
We can confirm all the positive comments in previous reviews.
The rooms at the back of the the hotel overlook a school so if you want to sleep past 8.30am on weekdays the noise may be a problem, but it was not for us as we prefer to get up and get going early.
In a quiet locality where Istanbullis still live, very close to all the major sites.
We stayed for 4 nights at the start of our visit to Turkey and returned for another 6 nights at the end. We will stay here again if we return to Istanbul.
