“Best Turkish Breakfast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012

I went to Van Breakfast House on Sun 16th of Sep '12 . It was my first visit & best breakfast experiance ever!! The food is just imazing & the fastest service ever come across with. Very popular and busy place. If you go early, have to wait for a table, so it is recommended to go for brunch around 12-1pm to get a table on the spot. Very treditional Van's breakfast, most products come from Van. Their speciality is home style cured cream which is served with pure honey, great selection of Van's famous cheese with herbs, feta & strings of Halloumi cheese, accompanied with fresh herbs, cucumber, tomatos, home made butter, green&black olives in olive oil, selection of pan fried eggs, tahini, jam, wallnuts, selection of bread and best of all unlimited turkish tea. All these for only 20TL which is AUD$10.80. It's a place NOT TO BE MISSED. very easy to find, straight walk, down on Siraselviler cad(st) in Taksim until you see "Akbank" (bank sign in red & white) it's about 5 doors down from the bank.
Enjoy your breakfast:))

“Amazing!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2012

This is a wonderful place to try the traditional breakfast. Don't plan on needing lunch! I recommend trying the grouping of assorted plates. We went with the largest version only so we could try everything. There were so many plates and breads that we couldn't finish everything, but it was so delicious we wish we could get something like that back in the states.

“A bit pricey, but great big plate full of cheese makes up for it”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2012

The basic breakfast gives you a really nice variety, from the mundane (olives, tomatoes, and cucumbers) to the more exotic (I have no idea how they made the egg thing taste sweet, but it was awesome.) They also make good menemen and sahanda yumurta. Great place for brunch.

“As close to Van breakfast as you can get in Istanbul”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2012

This place has a fantastic breakfast and very close to the flavors that you get in Van. Be aware that this place gets packed. If you want to have a hassle free brunch make sure you arrive before 10:30AM on weekends. Otherwise it gets a bit stressful and rushed.

In general the breakfast is great. You're best off trying the large sample platter to get a good feel for variety. It's one of the few places where you can get Kaymak (clotted cream) and excellent honey. They also have a variety of cheeses that come with the general breakfast platter. The menemem (eggs with tomatoes and green peppers) is delicious. If you haven't tried it, ask for the one with sucuk (turkish sausage). I usually just get the sunny side up eggs with sucuk which is also fantastic.

The only reason I didn't give this place the full 5 stars is because it is not quite as good as a true Van breakfast; it's a tad on the pricier side; and there is no watermelon in summer, which is very typic of a Van breakfast. Call me picky....

“Turkish and Non Touristic Breakfast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2012

This is the perfect place for a typical Turkish breakfast. In addition to the typical Turkish breakfast dishes this place offers a few dishes we did not encounter at other places.

It is reasonably priced. We had a – huge - breakfast for 4 people and paid 56 TL. This included one of the breakfast sets that included 15+ small portions of jam, cheeses, olives – which allows you to taste many dishes, 3 other dishes, 4 teas, 5 little bottles of water.

The menu inlcudes a lot of options and excellent quality of food. The breakfast set included two interesting dishes called Murtuga and Kavut. One is made out semolina, walnuts and honey and the other out of eggs and walnut. It sounds like a weird combination but brought out a new taste with two contrast textures and a sweet and savory taste. The egg dishes offered are different than the typical scrambled eggs, and you can choose them combined with different ingredients such sausage and tomatoes, cheeses … etc.

It is in a non touristic area and easily accessible. Best by getting off the tophane tram station and walking up towards the Italian hospital and a couple of meters more. The place is clean and staff very attentive.
