“They had kittens!”
Reviewed May 17, 2012

The owner was very nice and really helpful. He also owned the convenience shop below the hotel, so everything was nice and easy. Room was small but excellent value for money, and perfectly located. Close to everything and easy to walk to the Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, and Topkapi palace, as well as about a 10 minute walk away from the Grand Bazaar. The owner's cats had just had kittens, so there were little 6 week old kittens running around outside! They were adorable and very friendly - they would come running up to us every morning! When I come back to Istanbul I will definitely stay here again.

fantastic location, clean rooms, good breakfast, and ever cheerful host make staying at the guesthouse a very comfortable experience. the Blue Mosque and other places of tourist interest are 7 min. walk from the hotel. Rooms are very clean and well maintained. Wonderful sea-sighting from the breakfast room every morning with a very generous breakfast. The owner has a wonderful shop downstairs which has all things required for a tourist and otherwise. He also helps and guides tourists with all the informations relevant for Istanbul.
On the flip side, the low pressure in the shower results in a very slow outlet of hot water. The room and the bathroom might be smaller for some people but it was ok for us 5 foot 8 inch tall people.
I will definitely recommend this hotel for a very happy experience of the European side of Istanbul.

Chora guest house in Istanbul was a perfect and clean little hotel for us in Istanbul. The sheets were crisp and white and the beds were really comfortable. The rooms are very small but there is free internet and there is too much to do in Istanbul anyway. From the outside Chora certainly does not look like much and i was a little nervous to see what lay inside but we were very comfortable. It is in a great location. Walking distance for visiting all the sights in the neighborhood of Sultanhammet Istanbul such as the Blue Mosque, Palace etc. We found the owner very gracious and the view from the dinning area over roof tops and the Bosphorus is lovely.

Room Tip: We Stayed in a room that had a double bed and single. The one across the hall looked similar and com...

Hotel is located in the centre of Old City, only 5 min by walk to Blue Mosque and other wonderful places. But street is quet, you can sleep well. Design of the hotel - typical turkish house, very cozy. Very helpful and friendly staff. You can order transfer, buy everything in the shop downstairs, ask everything. Amazing view from terrace (where you can have breakfast or sit anytime). Pretty warm in the room (comparing to other places in Istanbul). I liked it very much! Thank you!

I walked into Chora Guesthouse while I was in Istanbul and bought two nights -- ended up staying for six. The owner speaks excellent English and was very friendly, as well as accommodating to changes in my plans. The place is kept very clean, and in fact is reminiscent of a hotel in that regard, but with a more personal flair. The WiFi was excellent and the breakfast far better in both quality and quantity than I expected. I found the price to be quite reasonable, but obviously that is a very subjective view and depends heavily on one's own budget. The only thing keeping me from giving this a full five marks is that there is no kitchen for cooking, though there is a pleasant eating area with facilities for tea/coffee. Oh, and it has an excellent view of the water and the Asian side of Istanbul across the way. I would definitely stay here again.

As a side note, this is a relatively quiet place, which was perfect for me. If you are looking for a party base, this probably is not a good fit for you (but fortunately Istanbul also has tons of party hostels).

Room Tip: No specific room tips, but some shower advice: since the hot water operates off localized heaters, i...

This is a former private home with stunning views of the sea from the breakfast room, good value and the perfect location for visiting the important sites in Istanbul. The owner is very accommodating, speaks good English, keeps very clean rooms and makes a good breakfast. It is very quiet for good sleeps and is a block off the very busy and inviting Akbiyik Cam. We will stay there again. We stayed in two different *deluxe* rooms on two occasions with private baths and were pleased. Each has a heater/airconditioner for the days you need them. Beds are good, we had WiFi available and thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality of the owner. The Guest House is a 5 minute walk from all the important sites yet it is quiet and in a safe neighbourhood for evening walking.

Room Tip: The owner provides bottled water for your convenience. Some rooms have sea views but all are very cl...
