Dede Efendi House is the only place where you can enjoy an original dervish ceremony in Istanbul nowadays. This 1 hour- long programme is performed by very professional musicians and dervishes with a nice introduction/slayt show of information and poems, It is a historical and authentic venue from 18th century where the father of Turkish and Sufi music lived for about 30 years.
If you know more about turkish music "makams", religious songs, musical instruments etc , you can enjoy more and see how professional the musicians are.
The dervishes are very good as well. You can also see that they have experience of many years. From the way they present the ceremony, you can see that they are not typical dancers, they are dervishes who learned this beautiful movements from a spiritual master or place.
The best thing about the ceremony at Dede Efendi House is to feel and discover the atmosphere in an intimate and mystic Turkish house. This must be one of the main reasons for you to go.

I really ignore the other the reviews. What do you expect from dervishes? do you want them to turn and fly, or dance in colourful costumes like belly dancers...The costume and form of cereomony of dervishes is the same since about 7-8 centuries. you may see many fotos or information of dervishes in restaurant or concert halls on internet, but that does not mean that these fotos taken at Dede Efendi House.

Their official web page is www.istanbuldanceensemble.com or the page of dances of colours and contact them for getting right information.( please remember that they organise other dance performances and concerts therefore be cereful for your choose)

It is very important to read about dervishes before you go and see it. You can find find right sources like wikipedia or poems of Rumi on internet.

We were excited at the prospect of attending an authentic whirling dervish ceremony but were terribly disappointed. With only a couple of rather tame choreographed movements, which were painfully slow, I wondered where the "whirling" was!
The Sufi music backing the dance performance, particularly the vocal accompaniment was professional but for 25 euros each it was a rip off!
