“Excellent Service by Friendly and Welcoming Staff”
Reviewed December 1, 2012

I visited Istanbul 4 times and so far I would highly recommend the Balin Hotel The manager Nil is a friendly and caring person who will help you every way to make your stay in Istanbul as enjoyable and wonderful The hotel has great decoration and each room has a separate Air condition unit so you can control the temperature The furniture is great throughout the hotel.
It is walking distance to all the major attractions and just opposite the Grand Bazaar. The staff have been very helpful when I needed anything.

Room Tip: If you are a tall person please request to book a room on any floor from 1 to 3

Before setting foot on Istanbul, I spent almost a month planning and reading through reviews on hotels in Istanbul as we will be travelling free and easy on our own. Balin Hotel was my final choice after all the good remarks on tripadvisor reviews. I made two different bookings , one on my first day in Istanbul and another two days on our last days in Istanbul.
Upon arrival from Ataturk Airport, it was only 6.30am. Mr. Serkan Ozler was at the front desk , I thought he was surprised to see two hungry and tired Asians desperate to get check in. He told us we have to wait for some guests to check out first before he could give us a room. As we were sitting at the lobby sofa, anxious and worried ... he generously welcomed us with Turkish coffee . It was really comforting and nice of him.
Some time later as we still couldn't check in, Mr. Ozler suggested we go for breakfast at the hotel restaurant. "Do we have to pay...?" was the question asked but he smiled and told us not to worry. I was really grateful and we had a good and healthy breakfast at the restaurant.
Finally we checked in to our room . Well, it was not a big room, but it was very nice and clean . The beds were comfortable for us too. It was nicely furnished, with complementary coffee and tea , drinking water as well as a kettle for boiling water. It was good enough for us.
Before we left checking out the exciting city of Istanbul, we had clear directions and suggestions from Mr. Ozler , which really helped a lot. The best thing is just a few steps out to the main road of Beyazit, we dwelled our way to the Grand Bazaar and all the shops around the area.
Location of the hotel is really great, and a short walk down the tram way, lies the Blue Mosque , Hippodrome and Hagia Sophia . Convenience is all that matters.
That night, we slept so well as there was no noise pollutions and no disturbances around the hotel area. We were fully charged on the next day to embark on our exciting adventure around the beautiful country of Turkey!
Before we left , we were glad that we would be back in a few days time .
We were right, our last two days in Balin was just like coming home because the staffs were just so nice to us. They were really great and before we left for the airport, Mr. Serkan Ozler gave us each a souvenir from the hotel , original Turkish organic soaps with such pure fragrance .... just like the Balin way of hospitality , true and sweet passion.....

Room Tip: Good rooms do not need to be big because service and comfort is what really matters to people who t...

We have just returned from having stayed 3 nights at this hotel.
We found the position ideal for the Grand Bazaar and trams . The hotel itself was immaculately clean with total change every day. We did have a room without outlook but this was expected on our Groupon voucher.
The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and always helpful.
We were delighted in receiving a little going away present as we left, which was a lovely touch that left us with great memories.
My only comment would be that when we booked for a taxi back to the airport, although it was our fault for not checking the ticket, it would have been helpful if the staff prompted us to check by asking which airport. The taxi was booked for the wrong one ( this had impact on the length of time required to get there as well as the cost). Fortunately we discovered this before getting to the wrong airport and we had a very fast driver!
Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone needing to be close to the bazaar and looking for a taste of renowned Turkish hospitality.

Room Tip: if possible ask for a room facing the road ( not busy)

Stayed 2 nights in late may in a single room. Hotel is well located and clean however my room was very small and poorly located near a noisy air conditioning vent with a window looking onto only a small enclosed space. Breakfast ok but only average and staff ok but not that friendly. The hotel was ok but I didn't enjoy it as much as other reviewers- maybe other rooms are better. Overall i have stayed in better hotels in Istanbul that gave cost less.

Balin Hotel is in a great location as it's in Istanbul's old city area which is close to the Grand Bazaar, Blue Mosque, and Aya Sofia. For the price it's a great deal and the staff are very friendly. I stayed there during my birthday and upon checkout the staff surprised me with a birthday cake which was shared with the rest of the guests. Great touch as they provided it no charge and it was a lovely surprise upon checkout! Would definitely recommend this to anyone else travelling to Istanbul (especially on your birthday!)

I have just come back from Istambul this week. The hotel impressed us (i was with my wife) due to the following reasons:they clean your room daily; breakfast is good;it is very close to Grand Bazaar and all other important historical places;is new;personnel is very keen to help you (even if some of them do not speak English very weel -exceptions are Nil and the lady from the reception who are very good English speakers).

Minuses:the dressroom which is small and the TV shows on cable TV (there is only 1 english language channel -BBC).
Tips:do not buy cruises from the agencies, they are far more cheaper if you go by yourself ( I don not speak here about 2-3 days trips to Troia or others).

Room Tip: 1st floor last rooms
