Directly located at the fish market of Beskitas. Friendly and helpful staff. Meze are very tasty, also the fish. Ask for catch of the day. We are staying some more days in Istanbul and would probably visit this Taverne again when we're nearby. Very recommended!

Thank Olaf G

Looking like an old tavern more than a restaurant I might say that Ahtapot of Beşiktaş will take you to a different experience. Located in the center of the fishmarket it is easy to reach and found even if you don't know the surroundings. As it is rather old establishment everybody around will be kind enough to assist you with the directions if you need them.

As with all classical Turkish fish restaurants you will start with "meze" but prepared to be selecting among many of them. I can't say that is good or bad as all is good but which you will eat will depend on what you like the most. Still I must warn you that you should be choosing 3-4 dishes tops if you want to have enough space for fish later though addition to that 3-4 dishes "midye dolma" is a must. It is stuffed mussels basically. It has a special cooked pilaf within and served with fresh cut lemon to squeeze a bit on each mussel. Afterwards just before your fish dish, you may consider ordering calamari rings and "güveçte tereyağlı karides". Those shrimps are deep fried in butter with garlic, red pepper and some other spices and come to your table still boiling. It is a great taste.

For fish you can always trust the recommendation of waiters or if you are good at seasons of Istanbul fish you can have your own choice as well. Still whatever you choose I can say that they will be well prepared and served. The serving will be in classical way of course. Don't expect fancy sauces or such stuff. You'll all get is again fresh cut onion, lemon and some greens. So that you can enjoy the taste of very very fresh fish.

I have visited Ahtapot in Beşiktaş two days ago. The place is not a restaurant but has the format of an old tavern. Right accross the fishmarket the tavern/restaurant is very conveniently located. The fish is very fresh and the meze (appetizers) are delicious. The music is old classical turkish music which enhances your conversation instead of blocking it. It is a good practice to ask for the chef's recommendation depending on the daily catch in the fishmarket.

I recommend this place for a quiet dinner with a friend in an authentic turkish meyhane (tavern).

We went to Ahtapot several times. We enjoyed good food and good service all the time until our last visit. On that day, unfortunately, our evening ended almost in a fight. After having had very good food, the staff came to us to complain that they received too little tip. During our dinner we did not enjoy a satisfactory attendance that we decided to leave a tip of 5% of the total amount. They dared to complain which is VERY rude! As we asked to talk with the boss they even did not have the courage to call him.
We regret that this was our last time visiting Ahtapot.
