I have stayed during March in this hotel, I booked a triple room, the hotel location is perfect, just in the center of the old city, less than 5 minutes walking to Aya Sophia and blue mosque.
The room was clean and the house keeping is good, a lovely lady called Mary is responsible for breakfast and the house keeping, so kind and friendly.
Our tour guides were the hotel staff, Ali and Ahmet, they gave us all the recommendation and the assist to enjoy every moment in our holiday.
only two points I would like to mention:-
- The room size is smaller than my expectation as per the pictures, and if I knew the actual size, personally I would prefer to take a double room and single room instead of the triple room.
- It was noise and smelly in the morning when Mery was preparing the breakfast, but maybe this can be avoided if the room is in 2nd or 3rd floor.
In general the hotel is recommended, especially if you are planning to spend the whole day outside in Istanbul.

Room Tip: Rooms on 1st floor will be noise and smelly in the mornings (frying egg smell) Rooms on 2nd and 3rd...

We booked this hotel back in December 2013 for a 4-night stay from 27th March 2014. However, we received an email from them 3 days before our stay saying that the hotel has overbooked and they have to cancelled our reservation. I can understand that overbooking happens but not if we have booked more than 3 months ago and worse till only informing us 3 days before we are due to arrive. I called them up. Not even a sorry from them. Just asked me to call back again when the manager is in.
Just make me wonder how they get all the good reviews here. Avoid it if you can. And definitely check before going there.

The location is right in the center of the old city. It helps if you want to get to the major tourist attractions right before they open to avoid crowds.
The breakfast is freshly prepared every morning!

Room Tip: The room is a little tight.

In the heart of Old town and Sultanahmet. A stone's throw from Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque, lots of places to eat across the road, good connection to other places by tram, very clean rooms, very friendly and competent staff. One minus: rooms are small, but if you're only there to sleep, it doesn't matter. Beautiful, tasteful and excellent. You will be very comfortable and it will be a perfect base from which to venture out to explore Istanbul, whether it is for 1 day or a week.

To begin with: The hotel is very centrally situated. All major sites are in walking distance. Gülhane tram station is just a 3 min. walk. The rooms are cute. The breakfast is gorgeous, especially for a hotel of this class and price.

On the other hand we couldn't rate the place "excellent" especially because of some problems related to the poor organization and minimal foreign language skills. The young staffs who run the hotel really do their best but with one fortunate exception it is actually quite difficult to communicate, get some answers, even simple directions.
In our case there was also an obvious booking mishap that ended well, same with the area water disruption that greeted us when we arrived at the hotel one afternoon.
We did not get the room at the front side that we requested and was originally confirmed by phone. Still, the other room was fine for us even if impressively small. (We stayed at the 2nd floor.)

Be aware that the rooms to the "garden" side, the rear side of the hotel entrance, have some noise from the Alemdar Cd. The tramway has two curves there, which are taken with screeching wheels. So it wouldn't be possible to sleep with the window open in case you hate air-cons but you don't want to wake up at 6 a.m.
We found the room remarkably hot –and it was almost hot at night despite being March.
Another possible problem may be the poor sound proofing of the rooms that guarantees your passive or active participation to the neighbours’ lives.

And yet in the end I rate Minel "very good". Location, the politeness of the staff, Maria’s delicious breakfast that varied in little twists every morning – all this made us almost forget the problems mentioned above. After all for the price of 38 € per night for a double it would be very difficult to find something better.

Room Tip: less noise in the upper floors, but steep and narrow staircase

The hotel is within walking distance to most historic attractions. There are many restaurants, cafes, gift shops around.
Close to the ferry and tram stop, helpful and friendly staff, good breakfast...

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 6 day stay at this little hotel. Yes, the rooms are beyond tiny, yes the stairway is winding, slippery and treacherous, yes, it is off the beaten track and hard for a taxi to find. But it's absolutely no problem to have the hotel send a driver to pick you up at the airport as suggested on their website. The hotel is clean and comfortable, the staff is warm and extremely accommodating, the daily breakfasts lovely, the price is right and as you step out the door you are right in the heart of old Istanbul.
We would definitely stay here again.
