Outstanding boutique hotel in Istanbul's old town. Small, intimate and fun. Breakfast and wi-fi included. Strongly recommend hotel and the staff. On quiet, steep and small street, which even experienced taxi drivers have trouble locating.

Room Tip: room with balcony

I recently spent four nights at Rose Garden Suites in Istanbul. It was outstanding from start to finish and in every detail. First, there was a complimentary transfer from the airport. Never having been to Turkey before I didn't appreciate how helpful this would be. Immediately upon our arrival the concierge, Selchuk I believe, spent a significant amount of time with us detailing possible itineraries - many of which we chose and all of which we thoroughly enjoyed. I highly recommend the dinner cruise - delicious food and a really fun experience. We had a full-day walking tour with a local guide that was terrific and helped us get our barrings the first day.

The accommodations were lovely, in fact, the entire facility was delightful - particularly the terraced rose gardens. They also have a restaurant there with excellent food.

Every single member of the staff was well trained and made our experience exceptional in every way.

I know this may sound like I'm over-stating it but it was a great experience in every way. I highly recommend this hotel.

Great little hotel which is very well situated for visiting all the sights of the old city on foot. The director and his staff go out their way to help you and are a mine of useful information. All round service was great. Situated in a quiet street with no spectacular view but with a paved garden on several levels which is a haven of peace and a great place to come back to after a hard day's visiting.

The Rose Garden is more expensive than some of the comparable hotels in the Sultanahmet (Old City) area of Istanbul, and you get a bit more for your money. It's a nice hotel, but not a great one.

Plus: Good location near to the Blue Mosque and other tourist attractions. It's on a relatively quiet street, so both streetside and courtyard-facing rooms are quiet. It has been remodeled, so the facilities are new and modern and clean. It has an interesting design, occupying separate buildings and an interior courtyard, so while it's a bit of a trek going up and down stairs to the various floor levels (and probably wouldn't be suitable for the handicapped), it's a pleasant facility. The rooms and the bathrooms are spacious and well-appointed, which is very welcome considering some of the tiny rooms and closet-sized bathrooms in competing hotels.

Minus: The worst moment of the hotel is the breakfast. It's included in the price and served in a nice space in the courtyard, but the staff of unsmiling, untrained teenagers and the mediocre food selection make breakfast a chore. No good morning or eye contact from staff; no spoons; lots of fruit sauces to mix into yogurt, but no plain yogurt, cold eggs, dried out sausages, blackened bananas; there is an omelette bar, but nobody to make omelettes and no staff offers to make one for you or says a single word to you. I recommend the staff be fully trained in guest relations (including a smiling "good morning"), and a professional food service manager be brought in to re-organize the whole space and experience.

In another glitch, there is a sign on the minibar in the room that says "due to health reasons", if guests put their own food or drinks in the minifridge, the maid will throw it out. That seems rude and churlish and is not the policy at any of the other dozen competing hotels in the area. I didn't have an opportunity to test this policy, but if I had brought leftovers from one of the fantastic neighborhood hotels, and the maid had thrown it out, the hotel manager would have had one unhappy guest. The policy is clearly aimed at directing guests to buying the in-house food and drinks, so the "health reasons" sign is dishonest, and the whole policy seems unnecessary. Guests are paying a lot of money for the rooms and minibars, there should be no question about throwing away guests' property or how they use the minbar.

In a couple of small decorating points, the room curtains are complicated affairs with many bits and pieces that probably looked great in the designer showroom, but the one thing they don't do is block the light. Hotel rooms should be able to darken completely, guests travel long distances and have jet lag and may sleep at odd hours. Fashionable curtains that don't darken the room are not serving the customer's purpose. Finally, the bathroom was large and modern, but furnished oddly with cheap materials. The cabinet door popped off for no reason, the soap dish was hung crookedly, the towel shelf was strangely hung across the bathroom from the shower, resulting in wet floors. Note to manager: store the bath towels in or near to the shower. Of course, these are minor inconveniences, but they should have been resolved in the remodeling process.

Overall it was a nice hotel, spacious and well-located. I probably wouldn't stay there again, but it was a pretty good experience.

Room Tip: Courtyard-facing rooms are probably the best, but streetside rooms are not noisy because it's a...

Excellent levels of service from all the staff who were constantly friendly and eager to help with any questions you may have. Their interest in your happiness and enjoyment felt genuine and sincere.

The hotel is well-located, approx 5 mins walk from the Hippodrome, and is in the right part of the old city for easy taxi to/from the airport (which the hotel will happily arrange for you).

The rose garden provides a relaxing, cool space to unwind with a drink and snack after a day exploring the city.

The Rose Garden Suites are part of the Rose Garden Hotel, and are actually a newer building tucked in the back of the main building. We arrived from Rome after a several hour flight delay and had a free transfer from the airport to the hotel. Once we arrived the woman working the front desk checked us in with ease and the manager on duty, Selcuk, had our bags brought to our room and offered us a glass of wine and snacks. He went over many of the attractions in Istanbul, and showed us around the hotel.

Our room was on the 3rd floor of the new building and was wonderful. It was obviously brand new, and quite large with a king size bed, a sitting area, and a desk. The bed was very comfortable and we slept quite well. The bathroom was decent size with a large jacuzzi tub and rainfall shower head. Our room overlooked the street behind the hotel, and although we were on the 3rd floor there was a fair amount of noise in the mornings. Nighttimes were never a problem. Next time I would ask for a room facing into the courtyard of the hotel, they had balconies and I would think a bit quieter. The room and bathroom were very clean throughout our stay, they did a wonderful job!

Breakfast was included, and was an assortment of breads, fruit, yogurt, and hummus/olives. There was someone making omelettes to order, but we were quite happy with the buffet.

The hotel is located right in the Sultanhamet, and is a 5-7 minute walk to the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and Topkapi Palace. Be warned, it is a walk up a rather steep hill! There are a few restaurants close to the hotel, but the main street in the Sultanhamet is quite close, and where we ate most nights.

For a first trip to Istanbul this hotel was perfect. It is so close to all the major sites, and the service was wonderful.
