“beware of the extremely high prices”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

we went for a dinner for 8, and what came out for a rather average food was huge bill tip on top of it. since when istanbul restaurants started to quote 10% service in their menus?
the wines were extremely pricey and for cipora (fish) we paid 100 tl. seriously? isn't istanbul famous for fresh fish at good price? or this is a typical rip off for a group of expats (i have been living in istanbul for 3,5 years)?
on top of this, service was mega slow, we waited for approx. 45 minutes to get to the main course.
so, no, you can find much better places, with much authentic atmosphere (go to safi on sishane), for a better price.

Dear jelenaeva,

First of all we would like to mention that we were very surprised by your review.

You are writing that you are living in Istanbul for 3.5 years. In such a case you should know that a dinner in a restaurant like we are is taking 2-3 hours. This means we are not pushing our guests and also we aren’t serving a food which isn’t ready to be served. If you want to have a fast dinner you should reconsider your restaurant preferences and maybe visit a fast food restaurant.

We would have wished that you have mentioned also the price you paid per person. Just in this case we can tell you if you paid too much or if it is a average price in our restaurant.

Also you said that you had a Cipura (sea bream) for 100 TRL, this is the price for a wild sea bream which weights 1,1 kg. This means you paid 11 TRL for a 100 gr. This is a regular price in Istanbul. You also could have chosen a regular sea bream which only costs 22 TRL. Waiting for a wild sea bream over 1 kg to be grilled takes longer than a small fish. If you are visiting fish restaurants you should have known this as well.

Coming to the wine prices, unfortunately we don’t know which wine you had. Let us just mention that the tax on alcohol is extremely high in Turkey (which you also should know if you live here) and most of the locations are trying to sell them on a lower price level than they really should, same like we do. The only difference is that some restaurants are selling a cheaper winery and some a more boutique winery, which has of course a higher price.

You have advised another restaurant on a review of our restaurant which let’s us really doubt on your review.

As we already mentioned, maybe you should reconsider your preferences.

Best regards,

Sebnem

“Best MEZEs in Cihangir”
Reviewed December 26, 2012

Small, cozy restaurant in Cihangir. Mezes are always fresh and tasty. Staff is very friendly. You can leave your unfinished bottle of Raki to finish on your next visit. They write your name on the bottle and keep it for you.
You should try "ciger" ( lamb liver ).
Highly reccomended.

“Good but expensive”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

Great food, lovely room, friendly staff but one of the most expensive in the area and - unusually for Istanbul - they add a 10% 'cover' charge onto the bill. I asked what this was for and was told bread and water. Well most Turkish restaurants bring the bread as part of your meal, which means that we spent £5 on a bottle of still water. I'm afraid we didn't tip as 10% was already added to our hefty bill. Would go again if it wasn't so costly - nearby Demeti has equally good food but at a much lower cost.

Dear michaelluke,

Thank you very much for your review. As you already mentioned we are not a cafe or bistro, which you can usually find in this area. We are an restaurant with a higher standard, which you also recognize from our food.

The mentioned cover charge is common in restaurant as we are; maybe you haven't recognized it when you went in other restaurant, because it usually isn't marked openly in the bill as we do it. We are not offering you tab water indeed we are offering our guests one of the most expensive waters and there is no limit for it. The cover charge isn't only for the water and the bread it also covers the the clean and comfortable tables, your dishes which are changed after every course etc.

As you came back in our restaurant the second time our food seems to convince you to pay the price.

We hope that you will be back soon again.

Best regards

Sebnem
