“Great place, truly unique small luxury hotel and gourmet experience”
Reviewed December 19, 2011

We spent a long weekend stay at Lavanda with a group of friends.İt was a truly magnificent experience.Very nicely designed and decorated open fire living room and lounge, beautiful garden anad a small spa in a separate building. One feels as a guest at a private country home, and the food prepared by an exceptional young Chef, the owners son who studied in İtaly,is incrdible.Do not miss the white truffles in season!Everything is fresh and designed to please..
The rooms are very comfortable, cosy and decorated individually, only 9 of them I think. The owners spouse has a small shop in the garden where you can buy gifts (scented candles!) and nice decoration items..Also a very nice destination for spending a day in the country, near İstanbul.Only 45 minutes from Beykoz.

Room Tip: Practically every room is very nice!

Today ( Nov. 9,2011 ) was the last day of The Sacrifice Holiday in Turkey and according to the weather forecast, last day of fall, because of cold weather coming tomorrow. So , my wife ,my mother-in-law and I, decided to celebrate the last warm day of Fall at a great restaurant , Lavanda Hotel Restaurant ,of which we had read good reviews in the local press. After a swift car ride we were there around 12.30 noon. The place was like an oasis after the car ride through the villages. We started enjoying the beautiful landscape with a cup of very well made Turkish coffee , while I was studying their very rich wine list , with very good Turkish and foreign wines. We chose to drink a Chianti Riserva, which went very swiftly with our food, which was truly great. As a starter, I enjoyed a wonderful Fois Gras and as the main course, a very tasty swordfish. My wife enjoyed the seafood pasta and the seabass and my mother-in-law , the pumpkin soup and the lamb chops . All these courses were cooked as a gourmet food , all very delicious. It was totally worthwhile driving 45 minutes from Istanbul. This magnificent restaurant is a pinnacle of slow food culture . Then we visited the hotel rooms ( just magnificent 10 rooms , each named after a tree type in the garden ) . Lavanda looks like a '' home-away-from-home '' with its very warm ambiance . We very much enjoyed the wine and the food and we tried to make a reservation for the hotel for the New Years Eve and the following day but unfortunately they are fully booked. They put us on the standby-list and we are keeping our fingers crossed that somebody would cancel and we would be able to stay at this magnificent '' house '' , owned and run by a very friendly family ,
the son Emre , being the Head Chef of this magnificent kitchen .

Excellent tastes from very promising young chief ... Though location is far from center , the overall nature is almost perfect for weekend stays ... Try Chief's degustation menu and get ready for a tasty journey ...

Having heard praises of the restaurant from family members, we set off from Istanbul, following the lavender signs in the narrow roads of the countryside, to find ourselves in this unique, peaceful oasis of a place. The hotel and restaurant are run by a family whose love and effort they put into this place show through in every detail. Their son is the chef, the food is Italian inspired and is made with fresh, artisan ingredients. Thanks to the tasting menu option, we got to sample nearly every delicious, immaculately prepared dish on the menu. The service was great, the waiters were knowledgeable and polite. We hung out for a good while after our lunch was over to enjoy the quiet garden, walk around and take pictures of the pretty hydrangeas, a rare opportunity for one living in the urban chaos of Istanbul. We did not stay at the hotel but the owners did show us around, and while the spa, the swimming pool and the rooms all look very well kept and luxurious, I think I would come back just for the forest, the garden, and the few hours of indulgent escape it offers from city life.
