“a true highlight of our trip”
Reviewed September 14, 2012

Our day with Olga was a perfect complement to the rest of our stay in Istanbul. We learned a lot while having a lovely time talking about our trip, our lives, food or whatever else comes up when people meet and spend time making food and socializing. The shopping was a pleasure: aided by great weather, we were able to appreciate the beautifully displayed produce in the open air market in Kadakoy (on the Asian side of Istanbul) and Olga's excellent observations about what makes one choice more valuable than another. We learned how to eat Baklava so as to get all the ingredients working together and the Baklava itself was so much better than any I have had before that I have to reconsider the status of all my favorite desserts and put it at the top. Olga did not rush the shopping or the tasting and so we relaxed and talked and grew openly inquisitive about the food, the neighborhood, and the nature of the market compared to other options in Istanbul. After shopping we took the quaint tram to Olga's apartment in the same neighborhood and made three excellent dishes that suited our vegetarian requirements and made a beautiful meal. Wine was served with it and we sat and talked for some time after finishing. Olga's instruction was easy going and we felt at home while chopping, cooking, etc... Olga got us back to the ferry and we rode back full and happy.

“Completely brilliant- thank you so much Olga!!! Best cookery class experience ever.”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

I absolutely loved the day I spent with Olga learning about Turkish food, and I cannot recommend it enough.

We started the day with a fab tour of the different stalls/shops in the Kadıköy market, sampling all manner of yummy Turkish treats on the way!

The cookery class itself was fantastic. We learnt to cook three starters, a main course and a dessert. Each one was utterly delicious - in fact it was quite distressing realizing that we could only eat a finite amount.

Thank you so much Olga for my best day in Istanbul :)

“Fantastic introduction to Istanbul”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

If, like us, you are staying in self-catering accommodation try and do this tour early in your visit, so that you get to know all the best places to shop, and develop some confidence in buying goods other than in a supermarket. As well as food, Olga is a fount of knowledge on many aspects of Istanbul life, and is happy to answer questions and share her considerable knowledge. The variety and amount of food to sample provided on the tour was large - we really should not have had breakfast before meeting up with Olga! Everything was delicious, and we could easily believe that Olga had selected the best place for each different item. Our only advice would be to ask Olga to wait until she is in a relatively quiet place before she starts talking - she has a soft voice, impossible to hear on a street corner with trams passing by!
In short, a very worthwhile and enjoyable experience in good company led by a friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide.

“Cooking class with Olga”
Reviewed August 25, 2012

Walking through the market on the Asian side of Istanbul is such a treat with Olga. She pointed out many traditional Turkish staples that we were more than happy to try! The baklava, the lokum, and the coffee were wonderful. The coffee was especially to my liking. Cooking and talking with Olga gives you an interesting perspective to Istanbul. Because she is a well traveled woman from out of Turkey, married to a Turkish man whose mother owns a restaurant in the countryside, she can explain many things that the Turks take for granted. Also, having her husband show up to chat was nice as well to get the insider's point of view.

“Perfect way for a foodie to experience Istanbul”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

The Delicious Istanbul tour was recommended to me by a friend with very discerning taste. It did not disappoint! Olga's knowledge of the city's food culture is outstanding. Her expertise and enthusiasm can only be found in someone who appreciates and understands every aspect of how what we eat winds up at our table. The tour takes you through various neighborhoods in Istanbul. At every stop, Olga gives you an in-depth explanation of each new item. There were so many new things to taste and smell that, in different hands, it may have been overwhelming. But Olga's knowledge of the area and acquaintance with the local vendors insured a soft sell. Everything we tasted was delicious, as was everything we brought home for our friends. Everything is included in the tour (except those extras that you pick up here and there) so all you have to do is enjoy.
