“New Inside Old Outside”

Hello Travellers,

Istanbul was amazing really I advise everyone to visit this natural modern historical city...

Crown Plaza Harbiye (Harbiye means Defence area as it seems that the location is near the ministry of defence or such a thing). its a very new hotel but located in an old area not happening!!! but I would stay there again.

Check - in is really quick but make sure you have all the papers that proofs that you have paid already in case you did, as it seems the online websites sometimes have different arrangements for hotels in turkey.

Rooms are pretty new with all facilities, you can enjoy the huge shower head as you feel its raining!!!

Try to upgrade your room upon check in to be in the club room or have free access to the lounge in the 13th floor.

The staff really friendly and helpful at least they speak english.

You will enjoy the daily breakfast but be aware that fresh orange juice is 13 TL which is approximately 8.5$.

Try their spa and turkish bath its really good and the price is competitive.

Hope you enjoy istanbul places i recommend Taksim Square in the evening after 8:00 pm
Sultan Ahmet during the day.

A small tip always ask the hotel front disk how far is the location you heading to and how much it would cost by taxi.

Room Tip: the views are almost the same dont expect much, but get a club floor room if you can try to insist o...

Although the hotel is situated in a not too nice street, 200 mtrs away there is a beautifull shoppingarea. From there you easily take the bus to Karakoy where you find the tramway to the old city and the boats to Princess Islands, etc.

Room Tip: Take the programm of IHG Hotels PRIORITY CLUB and collect points. You receive good benefits.

I stayed here twice as part of a tour of Turkey. The hotel was modern and had many amenities but it is stuck on a noisy street with repair garages and auto parts stores surrounding it. Not within comfortable walking distance of Taksim Square (you can walk several blocks uphill to the metro station and it is only a stop away, however.) Like a lot of the large hotels, it is across the Golden Horn from the old city and the Sultanamet district. The hotel restaurant and the pizza kitchen next door are both bland and overpriced. The beds and showers were nice (one room was very modern and had a bathtub in the open space at the foot of the bed - no shower but a hand-held shower wand if you didn't want to use the tub. You took a bath with a view of the street below and the surrounding buildings. Interesting, but I prefer a shower. The staff was harried and inexperienced (the young concierge did not know the district and sent us on a wild goose chase when we were looking for a restaurant that had been recommended to us. We should have take a taxi. Her instructions were to take the subway to Taksim square and the "just ask someone" about more detailed directions!). When I returned home, I found that the hotel had padded my bill by charging me $70 for, apparently, minibar refreshments which I had not consumed (the only reason to buy stuff out of a minibar is if you have more money than sense or if you are on an expense account and are glad to put it on the company nickle). I challenged the charges and my credit card reversed them, but beware. If you really want to experience Istanbul, find a small hotel in the Sultanamet (TripAdvisor lists several) and stay away from huge hotel row.

Room Tip: Make sure your room has a shower if you prefer them to baths, as many people do.

We stayed at this hotel at the beginning and end of a tour. Our room was spacious and had an extremely comfortable bed. The shower was good and there was a very good range of bathroom products. It was good to have the tea and coffee making facilities in the room after a long day of touring. The breakfast was excellent with a wide selection of both hot and cold food. We did notice that the hallways in the hotel had a smell like the carpets had been cleaned but were still damp. The hotel is also situated in an industrial part of the city which is disappointing for those who want to visit the major sights. We did walk to Taksim Square for a night time meal. The walk took us nearly half an hour.

It is really a very nice, new hotel with large, clean rooms. The downside is the location of the hotel as it is not on the nicest street (it is next to several mechanic shops) nor is it in the old part of town by the historic sights. Since it wasn't near any of the sights we wanted to see and we ended up needing to take taxis everywhere, which is a trying experience in Istanbul! It is, however, about a 20 minute walk to the conference, which is doable although there is a steep hill.

We found the staff to be very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The wifi was also great. Although it is a nice hotel, I think next time we would try to find a nice hotel closer to the historic part of town (if traveling for fun) or at one of the hotels right next to the conference center (if traveling for work).

I stayed at this hotel between October 8 & 10, 2012. This Crowne Plaza is relatively recent, and building is nice. In despite of the fact that the street is not so nice, I find it quite well located: just a few minutes walking from shopping streets and some trendy restaurants.
Good things: Room and bathroom are clean, wifi is working well. Nice food at the Ege Restaurant.
Bad things: 24 hours (!) to remove my breakfast tray: At the end of the day (I had breakfast on the morning...), I put it out of my room. At 6am the day after, it was still there... The receptionist didn't give me the room type (Club Room) I had booked. Hotel without charm, but easy to use for business travellers.

We were impressed by the huge rooms and the brand new facilities. However, the staff need to reflect on their actions. When I approached them for assistance regarding the wifi password and the way to Taksim square, they were more preocupied with their work on their pc screens. They were also busy chatting and laughing among themselves in Turkish. It left a very bad impression on me. My fellow room mates also shared similiar disappointing experiences with the staff. A total let down with the investment on the hotel but not on the staff training.
