“Great hosts for Istanbul”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2014

The Basileus staff were genuinely interested in us having a good time and feeling at home. It was the small things like stocking the room fridge with free drinks and water, insisting on taking our bags to the room, providing recommendations for things to do and places to eat, leaving all-day homemade snacks and hot drinks. They went the extra mile in other respects (I will not mention how - don't want to set others expectations too high). They really took pride in their work - that was something that was great to see. After the Balileus we stayed in a highly rated five star hotel in Jerusalem (Inbal) - but we kept comparing our treatment there with that at Basileus. Though the Inbal was more polished, they lacked that pride and had petty charges (like $4 bottle of water, charges for use of internet that just makes you feel less at ease). They could learn from the Basileus staff on how to run a hotel. Note that the Turks do not naturally have good customer service but the brothers that run the hotel were awesome. It is not the fanciest hotel, but is clean and has lots of heart and made our trip to Istanbul much better than we expected.

Basileus is located in a relatively quiet street a 5 minutes walk away from the key touristic attractions, it's clean and reasonably priced, but the key differentiators are the hosts, absolutely beyond compare in terms of attention and kindness. They made our day, every day, with great advice and attention. Highly recommend!

This hotel is very clean, well appointed and in a great location. Best of all though is the staff. Family run the brothers are incredibly helpful from suggesting where to go, providing map and directions or booking a taxi making sure price is fair. We had an hour to kill before our flight and decided to wait at the hotel and relax. We were invited to share Turkish coffee and helped ourselves to homemade cake which available to guests everyday. We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in the Basileus hotel for three nights in July. The staff were very helpful and always willing to answer any questions we had. The room was spacious, well appointed and very clean. The breakfast which was included in the price was excellent with a good variety of cereal, fruit, omelet and other Turkish delights plus percolated coffee and turkish tea. The location was close to the Blue Mosque , the tram line and a wide variety of good quality restuarants . We chose to walk everywhere. We would highly recommend this hotel for a short or long stay.

Room Tip: Room 202 had a queen and single bed but was was very quiet despite facing onto the street.

We stayed here in March, it's a fantastic hotel in a great location. 5 minutes walk to the Hippodrome, Blue mosque and Ayasofya.
Clean, comfortable and well furnished rooms. Breakfast was good, but if you want cooked eggs you have to ask. No one asked if we wanted any but I saw others ordering.
Staff are lovely and will try their very best to assist you.
Fabulous hotel, in what is now my favourite city!

This hotel is just perfect in every way, from the location to the attitudes of the staff. It is located in prime position and easy to get to all the main attractions of Istanbul. The owners ate extremely helpful and actually go out of their way to help you even if it is not related to the hotel. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Istanbul.

Hotel well placed in old city within 5-10 minutes easy walk of major attractions and restaurants. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room adequate size. Only downside was being in room on ground floor no noise from outside, only from guests returning after night out. Another matter for housekeeping to address is that, on first night, one of the bath towels had three holes in it, It should have been discarded and not given to guests.

Room Tip: Try not to get a ground floor room.
