The Basileus staff were genuinely interested in us having a good time and feeling at home. It was the small things like stocking the room fridge with free drinks and water, insisting on taking our bags to the room, providing recommendations for things to do and places to eat, leaving all-day homemade snacks and hot drinks. They went the extra mile in other respects (I will not mention how - don't want to set others expectations too high). They really took pride in their work - that was something that was great to see. After the Balileus we stayed in a highly rated five star hotel in Jerusalem (Inbal) - but we kept comparing our treatment there with that at Basileus. Though the Inbal was more polished, they lacked that pride and had petty charges (like $4 bottle of water, charges for use of internet that just makes you feel less at ease). They could learn from the Basileus staff on how to run a hotel. Note that the Turks do not naturally have good customer service but the brothers that run the hotel were awesome. It is not the fanciest hotel, but is clean and has lots of heart and made our trip to Istanbul much better than we expected.
