Narrowed our focus to 12 and based on availability and price, we went with this one. We were picked up promptly at airport and checked in to a first floor room with king. Was seriously concerned with potential noise interference but restaurant/bar that we overlook from small balcony was NEVER a problem. You could easily find accommodations far cheaper but its clean, comfortable and so very close to all of the hot spots. Ate at Stone House and Seatanbul cafe and restaurant close by. Steps from local Hamam and major points so convenience coupled with other bonuses makes price tag compared to others a true winner.
Also, the guys in the front are so helpful and make the experience even more relaxing.

Our family of 2 adults and 2 children stayed at Hotel Basileus for 8 nights, while in Istanbul to attend a wedding. We were in a very comfortable family or 'quad' room on the second floor, with three lovely little balconied windows overlooking the streets below.

Hotel Basileus is in Sultanahmet and is a convenient 10-15 minute walk from the Hippodrome and Sultan Ahmet Camii, and only a short stroll more to most of the other major tourist attractions and to the 'Tramvay' system to reach further points if you don't care to walk.

Breakfast was fresh, plentiful and varied; pastries, breads, spreads/jams, halvahs, fresh fruits, nuts, granolas, yogurts, olives, cheeses, juices, and eggs cooked to order. Breakfast is served in two rooms in the lower level.

Our room was very clean and neat, the bathroom had all the necessities, including a Turkish-style tub/shower. We had one queen and two twin beds, all typically firm--as we like them.

Yusuf and Ekram were at all times friendly and helpful to all of us, even family members not staying at the hotel.

The only glitch we encountered during our stay was that the water heater required maintenance one morning and we arose late the following day to find the hot water had been used up already by earlier-rising guests!

Travelers with mobility issues should note that there is no elevator/lift and that this is an historic area with cobbled streets, many on a grade. Yusuf whisked our bags up to our room for us, but if you are not accustomed to walking or need smooth, level surfaces this may not be the best option for you.

Good, moderately-priced 'quad' rooms are fairly difficult to find in europe; combining this with the great location, lovely breakfast and friendly people makes Hotel Basileus an excellent choice for Istanbul accommodations.

At the time we visited there was a complimentary airport pick-up for stays of 3+ nights as well as a discount for cash payments.

Based on our experience here I would certainly recommend Hotel Basileus and we will definitely stay here again in the future.

Room Tip: When traveling we always mention that we have children and request the quietest family room or quad available

The staff are friendly but even when we first arrived it felt like they were trying to send us off to their mates doing tours or whatever as they kept asking us what we wanted to do and even when we said we were doing our own thing they continued to ask. The lobby decoration is hideous but don't let that scare you off. The rooms are nice enough and cleaned regularly. Unfortunately the bathroom was very smelly because of the sewage systems in Turkey. Of course we cannot blame the hotel for this, but it would have been nice if they had put in air conditioner or something.
The do a good breakfast in the mornings with a nice variety.
Another problem was that our room was right by the street and we could hear absolutely everything through the windows from the restaurant across the road which got quite noisy at times.

From Omar and Ekrem's friendliness, to the hotel location, to the variety of breakfast, this hotel gives you the best bang for the buck. Just stay there!! Location is close to all major sights, and there's a fun fruit market nearby on Wednesdays.

This was the first time my wife and I have travelled to Istanbul and we felt so happy that we had chosen to stay at the Basileus Hotel. We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights.

First of all, the staff is wonderful. They made us feel as if they really cared about us having an enjoyable vacation in Istanbul. Our room was spacious, very clean, and located close to major destinations which we wanted to see, such as the Blue Mosque. Although the hotel itself seems to be a bit off the beaten path, once you get to know the way to where you want to go, you will find that you can easily walk to many places from this hotel.

The breakfast is fine, although after 3 days of eating the same breakfast we would have liked to have more variety of food. Still, we felt the breakfast was acceptable to us.

Although we stayed in Turkey for 4 nights, they were booked the first night so we stayed in another hotel. Thus, we had a chance to compare hotels and the Basileus Hotel was by far more superior in every way.

If you are in Istanbul, I highly suggest that you stay at this hotel, primarily because of the people working there. They were wonderful!!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 114, I believe. It was on the first floor near the lobby. We liked it very much.
