“friends near the blue mosque”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

The staff, many of them family, were the most friendly and helpful people you could imagine. The breakfast was substantial, the rooms very clean and comfortable, and it was close to everything we wanted to experience on our first visit to this ancient and exotic city. They happily helped us with every little detail we asked about.

Room Tip: we had a room with a small balcony that was pleasant

A true gem in Sultanahmet. Best service from a boutique hotel in a long time. They arranged soccer tickets, great resto recommendations, and made our trip very pleasant. A plus was the fact that the place is fairly well isolated from the call-to-prayer that goes off 5-6 times a day. Email ahead and they will arrange airport pickup for 20Euro which will get you to the hotel in 20 minutes from Ataturk. A cab will run you 30Euro and the Metro will take you 90 minutes and still cost around 5Euro per person.

We were in this hotel for a week and we're so excited with it. Room was cleaned every day, personnel were trying to be most kind, they helped us to arrange sightseeing routes every day, and breakfast was so tasty and delicious. The hotel is close to all major sights. We would recommend to everyone.

I should have written this review months ago when the details were fresher in my mind, but here is goes....Basileus Hotel is a great little hotel, good location, helpful staff (brothers?) and comfortable rooms. The hotel location really worked for us because it was a short walk up the hill to the Blue Mosque and all the other area sites (and a quick tram ride to any further sites). And the brothers gave us restaurant recommendations (near the hotel or far, tourist or local), map/directions and helped with airport transportation. Our room was on the ground floor, which was suprisingly quiet, as it was at the end of the hall away from the lobby. And we did not really hear street noise, since the hotel is on a hill/incline, the window in our room was much higher then the beds (kind of hard to explain). And the room was a good size, with a double bed and a twin, it probably could sleep 3, but we were just two friends traveling together, so it worked well for us. Breakfast was good, omlets if requested, and it was nice to have an internet terminal in the lobby, as my phone didn't have service

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room that we found roomy (DB and Twin) and surprisingly quiet.

This was a gem of a hotel and made the whole Istanbul experience wonderful. We felt like part of the family and everyone here made you feel comfortable. The room was great and the friendliness and the information was exceptional. We visited with staff when back at the hotel and it was so relaxing after a busy day out. Can't say enough about them. Have stayed many places on trips but this one is a gem. Would go back or recommend to anyone.

A very modern (renovated last year) hotel with nice IKEA quality furnished and immaculately clean. In particular, the breakfast buffet has a lot more options than most places (~30 different items), which was great for my mates who were vegetarian/healthy eaters. I thought this place was a welcome upscale stay amidst the other hostels/hotels in Sultanahmet, and the staff were not just friendly but very engaged and assertive in giving us suggestions.

My wife and I took advantage of low airfares and visited Istanbul and Rome. We stayed 4 nights total at the Basileus Hotel in Istanbul and glad we did. The service and care from the family members who operate this hotel is the best I have experienced in a long time. The hotel was very clean and attractive to the eye. The location is wonderful for visiting Topkapi, Hagia Sophia, and the Blue Mosque, just minutes walk up the hill to the first attraction. Great restaurants are close by so don't forget to ask the person at the desk for any and all suggestions. The folks at Basileus helped us greatly in setting up transportation to Sabia Goken airport for Rome and back for our last night with them after nine days in Rome, also with getting to Attaturk airport to go home. Breakfast was great and typical European, and they will even make you omelets of your choosing. What a great experience for us to stay at this hotel. If we ever use Istanbul for a connection point for Europe, we will definitely stay here. Our thanks to Ekrem, Yusuf, Muharren and the rest of their family for providing a safe and pleasurable stay. God be with you guys!

Room Tip: If you want a quiter room ask for one in the rear away from the street.
