We stayed at the Basileus twice during our trip to Turkey and the Basileus was by a wide margin our finest accommodation. Those guys Jusuf, Muharrem, all of them were such excellent hosts. The rooms are well appointed, roomy and the beds were dreamy. Breakfast was plentiful and well varied. I simply cannot offer enough praise to these fine gentlemen on their awesome establishment. They were so helpful to us in so many ways, well outside the call of duty for a hotel. 5 star quality at a 3 star price. You really cannot do better in Istanbul!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for a fabulous experience. Be blessed my friends!
Warmest regards,
Xmas & Robert

Staying at this small family-run hotel is like staying with friends- without the concern you'll wear out your welcome.

Location is excellent, close to the city's major attractions.

Nothing is too much trouble, even to the extent of one staff member going home to fetch a walking stick to lend me when I fell over and twisted my ankle,

The rooms are comfortable and well-equipped. The breakfast provided is good. The hotel can provide meals but recommends the excellent and cheap Cesme restaurant just over the road.

The laundry service is cheap and quick.

Out of season the tariff is cheap, but even in high season it would be excellent value. It doesn't have a gym, swimming pool or the other facilities most guests don't use anyway, but provides excellent accommodation at a good price.

Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front have some traffic noise, but not too bad, those at the back have an early-morning wakeup call from the nearby mosque.

What more can be said about the Basileus that hasn't already been mentioned? It truly is a great place to stay. The location is perfect, only a 10 minute walk away from the Blue Mosque and Sofia Hagia, the rooms are spotlessly clean (cleaned every day) and the beds are exceptionally comfortable. There is a free minibar in the room stocked with water and soft drinks which is refilled daily. WiFi accesss is free and connection is good. The breakfast is plentiful and there is a good selection – do request a Turkish omelette – it's a great way to start the day! Above all the staff are exceptional, they are friendly and courteous, yet professional. Ekram offered impartial local advice on what to see and do on our arrival and he and the Basileus staff always made a point greeting you when leaving and returning to the hotel.

The only downside to the hotel is that the plumbing is a little on the noisy side. Also the call to prayer happens daily at 5:30am, however I feel that this added to the experience of Istanbul.

A few of my friends are looking at travelling to Istanbul this year and I will certainly make a point of recommending the Basileus. Why go anywhere else?!

We stayed at the Basileus Hotel early this month for 4 days and were pleasantly surprised by the efficiency, friendliness and location of the hotel. Basileus is conveniently located near most tourist sights and Ekram was a wonderful host...very helpful with recommendations. The breakfast was a delight as well! We were given a late check out and a room later in the afternoon to have a nap and shower before our late night flight!
Highly recommended!
