“Noise!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 6, 2011

We stayed at the Basileus for 5 nights. Room size was fine - no tea/coffee facility. Bathroom was also fine. Cleaning was efficient. Breakfast variety good. However noise of traffic is a problem at present due to the road around the Hippodrome/Blue Mosque being relaid. As a result a stream of traffic comes down the hill right past the hotel from early morning and this can be pretty noisy. Not the fault of the hotel who have a notice apologising for the noise but if you are booking the Basileus check out if the roadworks have been completed. Apart from that, it's in a good location - provided you don't moind walking up a fairly steep hill to get to Sultanahmet main area. We came on the metro and tram from airport thinking that we could walk to hotel but roadworks stymied that. It would also have been quite a trudge uphill with cases.

We loved our stay at the Basileus Hotel. The staff was incredibly hospitable, the breakfast was great, it was very clean, and the location was fantastic. We were able to walk anywhere we wanted to go or catch the train. Overall, I highly recommend the hotel! They had a sign up that traffic would be bad because of road construction on a major road, but noise was not a problem for us. Also, wifi is free, but not the best connection.

This is a lovely little family run hotel that is neat, simple and clean. Ekhrim and his family are gently welcoming and will give advice, book tickets. You couldn't ask for more. In time, they may finish their roof terrace which will make it even better.

We stayed at the Basileus Hotel for three nights and it was wonderful. It is in a great location, being in the old city but just far away enough from all the tourist hot spots. The staff were really helpful - they gave us a very warm welcome and also tips on what to see all around Istanbul - the Bosphorous cruise was our most memorable day! The rooms are very spacious and clean and the breakfast is great. We would definitely recommend staying here.

Basileus is an excellent small hotel. The staff were very friendly, honest, and very efficient from the pick-up at Ataturk Airport to taking our cases to the nearby shuttle for the return. Yusuf, the manager, couldn't have been more helpful. The position is tops - quiet but within easy walking distance of the major attractions and close enough for a stroll along the esplanade of the Sea of Marmora. Plenty of restaurants nearby. The room was very clean, modern (not to say smart), and comfortable, and the breakfast offered lots of choice. Free internet too. We slept well and felt very much at home. Great value for money!

Had a great stay at Basileus, not least because of the welcome and ongoing service we received from Youseff. He was like a personal guide to the best restaurants in the city, ensuring we ate exceptionally and also planned our days so we covered the right sites in the time we had in Istanbul.
Hotel itself was clean, had brilliant breakfasts, and decent sound proofing so the early morning calls to prayer were muffled sufficiently so not to wake us.
It was a little difficult to find due to the map provided by Hotels.com. But very straight forward once you know.
Definitely recommend if staying in Sultanahmet

Yusuf, the hotel manager, was very welcoming from the first morning we met him and chatted over an apple tea. While a little small, the rooms are quite comfortable, with a fridge, nice bathroom and comfortable bed. The hotel is in a good location, about 5 to 10 minutes walk from the Blue Mosque, however the traffic can get a little noisy in the morning. The standard Turkish breakfast is served, however the omelettes and fried eggs are a great extra. While not especially cheap, overall it is great value for fantastic, friendly service and a good location.
