As a hotel, it is an average one, but what makes it very good is the followings:

- great location near the taksim metro. you just go from the hotel, cross the street and there you go.
- the service is very fast and the staff is very friendly.
- the breakfast buffet is very good and there is a fair variety.

the only negative things are :
- you pay for a bosphorus view but u barely can see the bosphorus.but its better that the others because at the street view its too much noise.
- we were surprised as honeymooner to come and see that there is two beds not one king bed. but they immediately fix it and combine them.

This hotel is located in Taksim Square at the top of the pedestrian shopping street. You can walk this all the way down to Galata Bridge and across the river to Sultanahmet. For variety take the tram back to the end of the line, cross the road and walk back in the direction from which you came & go underground to the Funicular to Taksim Sq.3tl for each segment of the journey.

The hotel staff were very helpful and pleasant. The rooms small, but adequate. The bathroom was a fair size with a great rain shower head. As in other reviews, the carpet needed a good steam cleaning, although this was common in all of the hotels we stayed in in Turkey. There is construction on two sides of the building and I assume they will loose their Bosphorous view in due course. The entrance is un-impressive, but that may be due to the surrounding construction and the hotel's cafe renovations. However, the main lobby is nicely decorated. Breakfast on the roof top terrace offers a great view and its bright & airy, with the exception of the smokers, but then you are in Turkey! The breakfast buffet was okay, and not always well stocked.

We stayed three nights in Sultanahmet and toured the old town and four nights in Taksim
Square. Two very different experiences. The latter being more modern and commercial. Good for shopping. Being in Sultanahmet was more touristy but also more vibrant and interesting. There are airport shuttle buses in Taksim Square, by the MacDonalds. They leave every half hour and you pay on board. 10 tl to Ataturk Airport and the ride took one-half hour 12 tl to the other airport on the Asian side and I believe the trip is about 1 hour, give or take.

If you have an appointment to keep and use a taxi be prepared to be delayed as Istanbul is totally congested. It can also lead to the driver taking back streets to avoid some of the congestion and thus a higher fare. In the early evenings it would take over 1/2 hour to travel 3km. All of my reading before the trip to Turkey recommended having your hotel summon a taxi for you. On one occasion, from the CVK Hotels, one taxi, summoned by our hotel, turned the corner & dumped our two fellow travelers because he did not want to drive to the destination in the traffic, He passed them off to another taxi & apparently told him to charge 35 tl for a 10tl ride. They, in turn exchanged some money. The second taxi got lost several times (on a 3 km trip) and kept stopping to ask for directions. It was a scary experience as they did not want to leave the taxi as they were in a residential area & didn't see many other taxis. They finally arrived about 1/2 hour+ after we did, to a wedding! Needless to say the welcome champagne was very welcome.
I would stay at CVK again, after all the construction in a couple of years,

Room Tip: The rooms at the front of the hotel will face the busy square; at the sides, construction and at thr rear, the Bosphurous view rooms that will soon be blocked by a new building

This hotel was not out of choice but a compulsion as this was a FOC trip and my local supplier made me stay here. While the reviews of the hotel were decent on trip advisor.....I had my doubts !! On arriving at the hotel....while I was not to happy seeing the entrance or the overall look of the place.....I was surely mesmerized the shops, restaurants and people around this place.

Check In - You are greeted by a non-operational escalator as you enter the small entrance to the hotel. The lobby is small but nicely decorated. We had arrived a little early, but were promptly given a room. We were booked at there Bhosporus View Dlx Room. The receptionist was nice and friendly (I think he was Suleiman).....and we were greeted with a welcome drink.

Room - The rooms are small.....quite similar to any European 3 Star, with just enough space to move around. There is a study table and a sofa with a coffee table which has been accommodated in this small space. After unpacking one suitcase....be rest assured that the other one will remain next to your bed. The AC worked well and the view of the Bhosporus was breathtaking. The rooms have smart interiors with light colors which makes it look a little airy !!

I have no complaints from the bathroom which was clean, well appointed, rain shower worked well and it was perfect.

The problems with the room was that the carpet looked dirty, while it was not smelling. The tea coffee maker was present but the hotel clearly mentioned that the tea coffee milk sugar etc will not be replenished during the stay and was for one time use only. This is something I have seen for the first time in any hotel, anywhere in the world. Staying for 4 nights, I felt this was the most stupid thing...!! There is also construction happening right behind the hotel and if you have opted for the Bhosporus view room, be ready to hear lots of noise from the construction site till late at night.

Breakfast - It is on the top floor of the hotel restaurant. It was nothing exceptional...with very limited selections. They dont even do eggs to order like omelet which is charged extra. Lot of stuff would get over and it would take them ages to replenish the food. The view from the top was breathtaking and its lovely to sit in the bar late in the evening.

The hotel has a cafe overlooking the Taksim Square, but this was closed for renovation when we were staying there !!

Spa - I was quite surprised to find a nice decent spa in a hotel of this size. I must say that I was impressed with the spa, its decor and the people there. We took the turkish bath there....it was nice. The gym, sauna, steam is free use for in-house guest.

LOCATION - This hotel is all about location.....you are right on the Taksim square. The metro station is 10 mtrs from the hotel. The famous Istiklal Street starts right at the hotel entrance, Burger King and Starbucks is next door. There are lots of Turkish Food stalls opp the hotel which are quite good. There is also a convenience store and a liquor store opp the hotel which makes the stay really convenient. Its the best location in Istanbul and you can turn a blind eye to the small problems of the hotel for this one positive point.

Conclusion - Istanbul is a wonderful city, a great mix of European and Asian Culture. You have to walk up ad down the Istiklal street once during your stay. Its a shopping paradise for Women....with local designer shops selling amazing clothes. The metro and the tram is a great way to travel around the city and is really convenient. Istiniya Mall is the best place to shop in Istanbul for high end shopping...a little far but easily accessible by metro from Taksim Square. The other must visit is the Grand Bazar, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and a cruise to the Princes Island.

If you fancy partying...dont miss the Reina Club....the best night club in town. The breakfast in local restaurants is much better then the hotel.....do try them out on Istiklal Street !!

Room Tip: Choose the Bhosporus View Rooms on the 6th, 7th and 8th floor......thats where you get the best view of Bhosporus. The rooms facing the Taksim can be noisy because of the traffic etc.

Although I have not been in many hotels, But CVK hotel is my best experience. First of all, it is very clean and newly constructed. Price is reasonable almost cheap. Staff are very polite, helpful and fluent in English. They served as tour leader for me! It goes without saying, the rooms are small. Finally at first night, the (Russian) couple beside our room were drunk and making too much noise. after my call to receptionist, the problem was solved very quickly. And last but not least, the position of hotel is very strategic; at Takksim square, beginning of Istighlal st. You can go anywhere you want by Van, subway, bus (specially airport) and tram.
