Great food, ambient setting and efficient service. We found the food to be flavorful especially the seafood and the music running in the background made it even better. The place also had a decently stocked collection of books on food !

We found a good mix of customers in this darkish, candle-lit restaurant, both locals and well-off tourists. The menu is short, but very varied and the food is excellent: at the end we settled for mezes and no main course, with a great chocolate dessert.

We particularly liked the good-English speaking waiters and the great music played.

Londoners cherish Moro for its clever and creative reinterpretation of Moresque cuisine, based of first quality fresh ingredients. Maya seems to have applied the same philosophy to the Aegean cuisine with great success. After a week sampling a large share of the best restaurants in town, Maya delivered our best meal. Service was very nice and helpful in suggesting us how to mix several mezes, a main that we shared for 2, and a nicely paired wine. We liked every single dish, including the dessert offered at the end by the house. We liked it so much that we ended up buying the chef's cookbook - and she autographed it for us. Highly recommended.

The food is superb, even inspired - the best we had in Istanbul. But the price of a bottle of wine is out of proportion with the price of food. Our bill for two appetizers and two main dishes was half the price of our $100 USD (200 Turkish Lira). In other words, the next to least expensive of Turkish white wine was 98 Turkish Lira. That doesn’t make sense.

The service was mediocre. It didn’t match the reputation of the restaurant, the food, or the décor. Our waiter asked if we were ready to order 5 minutes after we were given menus and we had to ask to have our wine glasses refilled. (It was a Monday evening and the restaurant was half filled at best.)

We enjoyed the wonderfully crafted and delicious mezes they offered, in addition to some excellent wine. Unfortunately, they seemed inconvenienced by us. Understandably, there are often two dinners in Istanbul - an earlier crowd who is mostly tourist and a later crowd that is mostly local. If your meal splits the two time periods, you see an unfortunately stark difference in service. Highly recommend this place for a delicious meal, just don't expect to be welcomed.
