One of two restaurants we went to twice during 12 days in Istanbul. Menu more limited than some (that's a big complement as far as we're concerned -- means they do fewer things better!), excellend service. Beautiful views over the Sea of Marmara in one direction and to the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofia in the other. Not the cheapest in Istanbul, but worth it.

The rooftop terrace (hence the name) has a very nice view (although not as good as the Seven Hills). The day we ate lunch there it was cool & rainy so the terrace was closed. We had the (Lonely Planet recommended) ‘Menu Degustation’ which was very enjoyable. The servings are large, so you may do as well to order the cold meze and the mixed grill a la carte – it costs less and may be much the same as the Menu. This was the best restaurant we ate at in Istanbul, hence its 5-star rating. However, to be fair to other cuisines, if this restaurant was in France, we would rate it a '3'.

My first night in Istanbul and my first exposure to the quality of food, service and cost - and I left very happy indeed on all three counts!

Winding my way through the streets of the Old Town, below the Blue Mosque, the Hotel was quite easy to find, with the restaurant placed on the top floor with panoramic views of the Old Town on one side and the Sea of Marmara on the other.

The service was excellent - friendly and attentive, but not over-bearing in any way.

The starter (tomato and basil soup) was followed by Turkish Ravioli - in my view, the tastiest version I have yet experienced (Heinz and Milan, so far!) - decorative pasta meat parcels, topped off with a generous helping of an accompanying yoghurt/sauce combination that was simply delicious.

With two beers and access to a "free" dessert table, I expected a bill of around £30-£35 or so - but I was pleasantly surprised to be asked for less than £20 - 65 Turkish lira. When I happily offered another 15 as a tip, the waiter was stunned - tips of that percentage are clearly not expected.

So this was a great pick - excellent location, lovely food, very affordable, great service.

Highly recommended.

What a location. The rooftop restaurant has spectacular views of blue mosque , hagia sophia, the river and sea of maramas. The staff are excellent. Service is so good. I had dinner with a party of friends. The food is awesome.Tried different varieties of sweets, their kebab platter and starters.
The place has a wonderful ambience, nice lighting and seats. They play nice background music as well.An unforgettable evening. Price is reasonable definitely not cheap.Wish they had live music and sufi dancers to added an extra twist!
