Sirma Sultan Hotel Istanbul
Ranked #513 of 1,113 Istanbul B&B and Inns
Reviewed May 10, 2011

Me & my boyfriend stayed at Sirma Sultan on 29Apr-08May. I asked for a double room but the owner Guven upgraded it to a triple room for the same price. The people are amazing. The lady who serves the breakfast, the receptionist, the chambermaid, the driver, and the owner are all wonderful people. Customer service was excellent. They made sure that we have everything we need. Though there was a little bit of problem with the AC but it was fixed eventually and it wasn't really a problem because it was very cold in Istanbul when we went there. Breakfast was superb and always on time. The location of the hotel was very good and very close to Hagia Sofia, Basilica Cistern, Sultanahmet Park, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and Grand Bazaar. What I really like is two days after we left Istanbul, I received an SMS from the owner Guven asking if we're ok and if we reached safely! Very nice people! All in all our stay was memorable and I would definitely recommend Sirma Sultan Hotel to everybody!

We stayed there for 4 nights. The location is good and the staff friendly BUT... the rooms are small and there was too much noise coming from the reception all night long and we couldn't sleep. The breakfast was never ready on time. Also we asked many times how could we pay in the toll station of the Bosphorus bridge and no-one of the staff new the answer. We payed 50 Euros per night but we would prefer to pay 20 more and stay somewhere much better.

I've been in this hotel many times and I think is a very good coiche for a nice stay in Istanbul.
It's located 5 minutes walking from Blue Mosque and Ayasofya and the tram station.
The room are comfortable and they are making a lot of renovation that will make them even better.
The breakfast is served in a nice terrace and I liked it a lot.
The people that work there and the owner are very nice and they will make you to feel at home

This small family run hotel (hostel) is right in the old city center. It is within 10-15 minutes walk to Blue Mosque and Haghia Sophia. But be aware, that this area is little bit hilly. The hotel istself is clean and modern. But the surrounding is little bit messy. The rooms are small and the view isn´t nothing to write home about it. Breakfast is free and is served on the terrace on the upper floor.

My affectionate comrade and I stayed at the Sirma Sultan in January of 2011. We only stayed for a duration of two nights, but it felt like an eternity in the deepest pits of Hades. The hotel is truly awful.

Firstly, upon arrival we discovered a plethora of body hair on the sheets of the bed, which was made and set to appear as clean--it wasn't by any stretch of the imagination. When we asked for them to be changed, the manager jeered at my partner as if she were chattel.

The bathroom has a shower head yet no shower, thus you're showering next to the toilet and the sink, and all the while the water is leaking out into the hotel bedroom.

Those shortcomings are nearly bliss when compared to the smell which never seemed to escape the bathroom--that of pure death. Truly, the odor in the restroom was something very akin to that of decaying animals in the midst of summer heat.

The heater/AC did not work in our room, which required us to either sweat incessantly through the twilight, or open the window to a very cold January night. (The poignant temperature was only complimented by the many noises of the less than safe neighborhood.)

One finally gets to sleep in the Sirma Sultan only to be awoken within a few short hours by the many inner noises of the hotel--mostly that of your neighbors (or its permanent inhabitants) fornicating loudly. Putting it quite mildly--the walls are thin.

Falling back asleep after that, which isn't exactly easy, gives you just enough rest to wake up to the sound of the morning prayers. Not normally such an intrusion, but the loud speakers are placed within an obnoxiously short distance of the hotel. Around 6 a.m. every morning.

The breakfast was made by a sweet old housekeeper each morning. She was very pleasant and exceedingly friendly. However, because she was doing all the work by herself, the meal was no less than 45 minutes later than the scheduled time each morning.

To summarize, in the words of Azar Nafisi, staying in the Sirma Sultan "is like fornicating with someone that you loathe." Avoid this hotel at all costs.

We stayed at Sirma Sultan 4 nights at the beginning of our four month Asia journey. When we arrived we got a room without working a/c and only one small window, but after a brief discussion with a helpful, but almost non-english speaking staff we agreed to change to another room after the first night - a room facing the small street outside. Much better!

The new room was small but big enough for two with a chair and desk. It had a small TV, quite weak WiFi signal but the bed was comfy and bathroom OK. Breakfast was alright (sandwiches, jam, eggs, coffee) but nothing special.

The location is close to the Blue Mosque, but as Sultanahmet is very hilly with small streets and lots of traffic - do take cab if carrying luggage (even though the hotel seems to be close from the otherwise very convenient tram service).

We had a pleasant stay and considering the surprisingly expensive accomodation market in Istanbul, we feel that Sirma Sultan was worth the money spent,
