We stayed at this guesthouse for four nights in April 2011. Best part about the place was the comfortable rooms, good breakfast and very cost effective for a family of five adults.

A disadvantage of this place is that it's not a proper hotel, there is one big refrigerator common for all, and a very small dining area for breakfast in the basement. The terrace was closed for renovation hence we were not able to use that, however that might change in the future. The staff does not speak English very well, but it's possible to converse in basic English.

Overall I think it's great value for money.

We stayed for three nights in very comfortable clean rooms, with great views of the Mamara sea. Breakfast was plentiful, staff friendly and helpful, and the guest house is in easy walking distance of all the major tourist sites. All round, very good value, we would recommend City Guest house to anyone looking for a cheaper comfortable alternative to an expensive hotel.

Room Tip: The higher you go the better the views.

Very simple and yet so warm and full with cheer and tenderness. My wife and I could feel as members of the hotel's lovely family. The owner is very helpful and well English-versed. He spent times explaining to us where to go and what to do.
Rooms are medium to small. Rail way is a bit close but rare to cross by to cause any disturbance, though we were told by the hotel owner that the trains are being replaced with quite ones.
Breakfast does simple and home-like. We really enjoyed it through our 4-day stay.
There is a very close supermarket for dialy needs. The room I stayed in had a wide sea-view angle towards Marmara sea.
The heating was adequate and room service was excellent. There were enough bedsheets and covers.
In short, if you want a 5-star hotel, then Istanbul is full with such hotels. But if you want a value for your money, then City Guesthouse Istanbul is a perfect candidate.
