Description: Welcome to Albura Kathisma, a unique and beautiful Cafe & Restaurant located in the heart of historic Istanbul. In easy walking-distance of the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia and Topkapi Palace, our garden enters the mysterious Byzantine Palace that once stood here. Opened in 2005 in an old Ottoman family house where we are now, we offer cozy indoor and spacious outdoor seating, friendly and courteous service and, of course, delicious food, served all year round. Thanks to our success, Albura Kathisma has grown in recent years, but our passion stays the same: to provide our customers with the perfect experience of eating out in Istanbul. With a menu covering Turkish and International cuisine, we cater for a range of diets and tastes. Specialties include seafood and salads, traditional Turkish, delicious desserts, and vegetarian dishes. Our well-educated chefs and waiting personnel are happy to offer advice on your menu choices and personal amendments to dishes if requested. In 2012 we extended and updated our kitchen, also adding traditional elements: a large stone oven where we bake our own delicious fresh bread daily, and a charcoal grill to cook our selection of Turkish kebabs from different regions of the country -- a "gastronomic tour" for the kebab connoisseur! Open daily all-year round, including New Year, we are always happy to cater for groups, families with children, couples, individuals and celebration parties. We are honoured with all of the tripadvisor reviews you have written or are going to write. We read them all and are grateful to receive your comments, ratings and suggestions.

“Good dinner/lunch option in the Sultanamahet area”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2013

We had dinner at Albura Kathisma few days back (week of June 17, 2013) : myself, wife and two young girls.

Our review:

Location: This restaurant is located on restaurant-row - Akblylk Cad. Most restaurants here hawk you down as you walk past; but not this one which is a good sign. Also this is one of the more crowded restaurants in that area - another good sign.
They do have a roof-top, but being on the opposite side of the road, you don't get the awesome sea views you have from the other side. So don't expect great views from the rooftop.

Food: Good but not great, in our experience. We had a lamb kebab, meat stuffed ravioli and a chicken dish (don't recall the name). The lamb and ravioli were quite spicy, even though we are quite used to spicy cuisine. Maybe this is how Anatolian food is meant to be, but pointing out here as a warning. Meat inside the ravioli was very minimal. For dessert we tried the milk pudding which was good. Overall good food, but didn't think it went much beyond the ordinary.

Service: Very good. Waiters were attentive, without being overly obtrusive or pushy. Would've liked some explanation on 'anatolian cuisine', but we didn't ask for it either ..

So overall a good experience, but we felt Tria elegance (a neighbor) and Pasazande were our restaurant highlights in that order, with this one coming a distant third.

“Tasty food and friendly waiters”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2013

We went to the Albura Kathisma twice in our short visit because I had my birthday while in Istanbul and the waiters were so nice the first time we went that I just wanted to return to get spoiled on my birthday. Lee is a super friendly guy and he gave us good service and came and joined us for a chat at the end of the night. I got a dessert with sparklers and hand held fireworks and they sang me happy birthday too. Food is traditional Turkish Fayre but definitely one of the better restaurants around Sultanahmet.

“Good food, good fun!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2013

We loved this restaurant, the best of any we tried in this area. Very good food, waiters with good English and a sense oh humour, good Turkish wine. Ask them to show you the remnants of an old palace in the basement, a reminder of how much more there must be underground in this city.

“Beyond excellent--SUPERB!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2013

Hands down, the best food of our 16-day trip to Turkey. We went back again and again--five dinners in total! Inventive but classic, and delicious--whether you choose the specialty of the house, Monkfish, or the vegetarian delight, Turlu Turlu. It just doesn't get better than this place for a great dining experience with splendid food, service and ambience.
