Description: Welcome to Albura Kathisma, a unique and beautiful Cafe & Restaurant located in the heart of historic Istanbul. In easy walking-distance of the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia and Topkapi Palace, our garden enters the mysterious Byzantine Palace that once stood here. Opened in 2005 in an old Ottoman family house where we are now, we offer cozy indoor and spacious outdoor seating, friendly and courteous service and, of course, delicious food, served all year round. Thanks to our success, Albura Kathisma has grown in recent years, but our passion stays the same: to provide our customers with the perfect experience of eating out in Istanbul. With a menu covering Turkish and International cuisine, we cater for a range of diets and tastes. Specialties include seafood and salads, traditional Turkish, delicious desserts, and vegetarian dishes. Our well-educated chefs and waiting personnel are happy to offer advice on your menu choices and personal amendments to dishes if requested. In 2012 we extended and updated our kitchen, also adding traditional elements: a large stone oven where we bake our own delicious fresh bread daily, and a charcoal grill to cook our selection of Turkish kebabs from different regions of the country -- a "gastronomic tour" for the kebab connoisseur! Open daily all-year round, including New Year, we are always happy to cater for groups, families with children, couples, individuals and celebration parties. We are honoured with all of the tripadvisor reviews you have written or are going to write. We read them all and are grateful to receive your comments, ratings and suggestions.

“Lovely end to our day in Topkapi Palace”

Great selection of simple turkish food, lovely flavours, attentive and fun staff, we did try the bottle of Angora. The bread looked like a rugby ball which was amusing. Spotless toilets...always a good sign. We paid twice the price last night at an overrated restaurant for half the value and no service.

“Amazing 'palace', delicious food, great staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2012

This restaurant, was close to my hotel in the Saltanahmet. All the restaurants hassle you, but this one intrigued me because they hassled less and after I'd sat down they asked if I'd like to see their underground castle. Thinking I was going to get robbed, I was pleasantly surprised when I got to see actual ruins under the restaurant. The wait staff were attentive, the food delicious and good quality, I would highly recommend it.

“Friendly place with good food and a tantalising secret”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

We stayed in the Sultanahmet district of Istanbul and asked our hotel for a nearby recommendation for lunch. They told us about Albura Kathisma in Akbiyik Caddesi and we ended up having three great meals there during our week in the city.

The staff were friendly and attentive, without being over the top. A large, puffed up pide (flat bread) and dip were provided at every meal and there was a wide range of starters and turkish main courses. It doesn't pretend to be a fine dining establishment but the food was always well-cooked, tasty and well-presented. Mains were around 25 turkish lira.

If they like you they will let you in on the cafe's unusual secret - I'm fairly well travelled but it was a first for me !
