“Great Location, Clean Hostel.”
Reviewed November 2, 2011

For those staying on the Asian side, this is a great option. Literally, minutes away from the ferries to Eminonu, close to the restaurants and cafes. Located on the quiet street. Clean facilities, good breakfast and friendly staff.

This hostel is quite new. That means the rooms are in excellent condition. It is very clean. The hostel is located on a very quiet street in Kadiköy near the harbour.

The location is nice. Kadiköy is not so touristy. The downside of that is: you always have to take the ferry if you want to go to Sulthannet or Galatan.

The staff is neither friendly nor unfriendly. After all, this is really good choice for Kadiköy.

My wife and I stayed here for nine days in a private double with shared bath. The best part about this place was the location, if you want to experience the Asian side (and a more local feeling) Istanbul. Because you are staying away from the tourist center, the price is right and the local markets, restaurants, bars etc. are also much cheaper than the Europe side, making this an overall good value. The breakfast was pretty good, nothing fancy, but plenty of food and coffee. The place overall could have been a little cleaner, the bathrooms were always soaked in water and I believe the rooms are only cleaned when you leave for good (only an issue if you are staying for a long time), and the kitchen/dining area could have been cleaned more often. The laundry service was a disappointment - it took 36 hours to get our clothes back and when we finally did, they were stuffed in a bag, a sock was missing and one shirt had a new stain that didn't exist before - recommend going to a local place and doing it yourself. Overall, though, a decent place.

The thing I liked most about this Hostel was its location. Having stayed in Beyoglu before (which was also excellent) I wanted to check out the Asian side and it was well worth it. The ride over to the old city and the tourist areas is nothing short of spectacular and on your commuter coin it is a bargain for a Bosphorous experience. Surprisingly there was very little by way of information in any guides that I saw for the Asian side but the Hostel provided a good map which highlighted a few markets (including the fish market area which is a must and also has a few fantastic antique and bric-a-brac shops to rummage through) bars and some other things of interest. If you intend to go out in Beyoglu or the old city one thing to be careful for is to make sure you know the times of the last ferries back and forth as this is a pretty easy trip. But even if you're out til after the last ferry I think you can get a taxi back over the bridge for a bit of a premium.

I did get the impression that the hostel was finding its feet a little bit and was undergoing a few changes but the staff were nice and helpful. Otherwise a nice little garden out the back where you can grab breakfast (in the right weather) a shared computer with internet where people generally/sometimes follow the time limits and seemingly a population of people who enjoyed spending a lot of time about the place. Incidentally, the ride to/from Sabiha Gokcen is really really easy and very cheap which is always a bonus. And the area struck me as pretty safe and residential - the walk to the ferry and buses is quite busy which is unsurprising in a city of 11m people but the place itself is quiet and very few cars pass on the narrow road outside. Overall a good bet.

Our accommodations were substandard at best. The only staff member we met was rude, unresponsive and completely unprofessional.

We had 4 people, paid for 4 beds, but upon reaching our room one of the beds was in use. We said we'd be fine with three, and my friends shared the single bed.

Then at 3am the owner of the 4th bed comes in and declares he wants privacy so the hostel dude kicks us out of the room. They stuck us across the street in a moldy storage area with two mattresses on the floor and a bunk bed (which was where the hostel guy sleeps, so that was nice of him to do), but we payed for 4 beds with a bathroom down the hall. Instead got kicked out of the beds we payed for (minus one, technically) and got stuck in a storage room with mattresses. We tried to get a refund, and that's where the friendliness ended. Needless to say we didn't get what we paid for and we were dissatisfied to say the least.

Room Tip: Hope someone doesn't decide to buy your bed.
