Visited the main cafe near the Hagia Sophia during Christmas 2012 with friends. We loved it so much we went there every day during our trip. Great place to sit and have a coffee, tea or a sweet. I had the best creme caramel ever even though it's not their specialty it goes to show the amount of care and effort they put into their food.

The cafe has a great atmosphere and it's hard to make a choice with so many items on their menu which by the way is almost as thick as a magazine.

Bought souvenir boxes full of Turkish delights to bring home for friends. The pomegranate was the best ever with fresh pistachios.

This was one of my favorite places to eat during my visit. You shouldn't miss it.

Peering into the alluring windows at Hafiz Mustafa, gloriously laden with traditional sweets, may be enough for some but we felt we had to go in to really experience what this traditional shop had to offer after a visit to the Blue Mosque. Invited to sit upstairs, our booth was perched above the busy street corner. We enjoyed an array of sweets as well as some of the best Turkish coffee in the city. The mastic pudding was truly "gummy", with a lovely subtle flavour; the rice pudding was milky and understated; ketaifi, laden with pista and just sweet enough had a perfect combination of nuts on a gorgeous pastry base. We brought some packaged Turkish delight home to gift and enjoy ourselves and these were fresh and travelled well. It's definitely higher end, but the quality of service, drinks, and sweets, is very worth it.

We were walking up towards spice bazaar when it started snowing a bit hard and we found ourselves taking shelter righ outside the small original shop . Someone opened teh door and asked us to come in and wait if we woud like for the snow to slow down. On entering the shop , we were pleasantly surprised to find a small and cozy shop where we were welcomed with seemingly endless samples of turkish delights while we waited for our tea. Unlike the contant heckling and upsell of other shops in the area, Hafiz Mustafa won us over with the warm hospitality and welcome they extend in their shop. We loved the Turkish delights and sweets on display and went back on the evening to buy a lot of it to carry back home.

In fact we went back again after dinner to the bigger shop just down the road for some Baklava to end the night. Same hospitality. They offered us samples of Baklava as well before we ordered a plate. Definetly recommended head and shoulders above other sweet places in teh Sultanhamet area. The bigger shop has a seating area on the 1st floor that is very nice.

My wife and I visited Istanbul for our honeymoon. On the second morning we stumbled upon the Hafiz Mustafa 1864 location across from the Blue Mosque (at the Sultanahmet tram stop) and regularly returned once or twice a day. The Blue Mosque location is harder to spot because it is in a stone store (unlike their main location at the Sirkeci tram stop with just glass windows).

Much more relaxed if you go in the morning and you might have the honor of meeting Aytekin, one of the many kind waiters we met on our trip.

Recommendation: stop by in the morning for a tea (regular Turkish) and a sample of Turkish Delight or baklava... then when you realize how great it is, you will be overwhelmed by the pudding dishes. For two people, our tea and dessert break typically cost only 10-15 lira... at an exchange rate of 1.8 lira to $US, it was a real bargain.

The desserts in this place are amazing!! We tried the baklava in the restaurant and they were awesome. We also bought Turkish delight from them and they were much better quality than many of the other shops (this includes Istanbul and Cappadocia areas). The sahlep was great and really filing!! In other places, sahlep tasted like flavored/sweetened milk, but this one tasted much better. I was told that authentic sahlep (which is a spice) is very expensive (most expensive after saffron), so not sure if any of them were really sahlep!

Yes, they are more expensive than other places, but I think it is worth the price.
