Hotel Djem
Ranked #326 of 1,159 Hotels in Istanbul
Reviewed August 11, 2012

Hotel Djem is a top-quality boutique hotel in an excellent location with very accomodating and helpful staff. We stayed in 4 hotels during our trip to Istanbul and we found Djem to have the best rooms and the best location in the Sultanahmet area. We stayed in the new annex, and found the rooms to be very well appointed and organised, and also very modern. We had a view of the Sultanahmet (Blue) Mosque. The bathrooms are also excellent and everything is kept very clean. The rooms as well as the rest of the hotel has very nice decor and artwork from the owner's shop (in Arasta Bazaar).

Staff, in particular Ufuk, were very kind to us and tried their best to accomodate our needs. Ufuk did an excellent job in providing us a room for a few extra hours before our departure to the airport. During our stay he gave us a lot of useful information on Istanbul and Sultanahmet.

We had a very good rate at Djem and therefore took 3 rooms rather than 2 with extra beds. The rate was specially reduced for the time we went, and the regular price variations thankfully worked in our favour. As this was our first trip to Istanbul we did a lot of research into the hotels and accomodation available - for future trips this time and effort will be saved!

The very slight inconvenience of going between the reception building and the rooms at the annex is more than compensated by the size and quality of the newer rooms. Ideally Djem needs a rooftop terrace, as well as a more spacious breakfast area (or possibly achieve both together). Breakfast was good but could be improved with better breads (Turkish rather than sliced), condiments and coffee.

It’s a nice small hotel, well located ,close to all the important monuments ! The room was very clean but quite small. The service was excellent! The receptionists, from the very first moment were very kind, very friendly and willing to help you by giving you all the information you need! They really know what the word “hospitality”means!

My two children and I stayed at Hotel Djem in June 2012. A warm welcome from staff with tea and turkish biscuits in a reception area decorated with lovely antiques, textiles and ceramics. The staff could not have been more helpful, friendly and welcoming. The location is wonderful, within walking distance of the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Topkapi Palace and the Grand Bazaar. We felt very safe wandering around at our leisure. Breakfast was good and the apartment we stayed in (five minutes walk from reception) was clean. The bathroom was pretty small but overall I would highly recommend Hotel Djem.

A very good location is the first thing that strikes you about Hotel Djem. We were ok, in that we live in Dubai and are used to hearing the call to prayer from a mosque 5 times a day. If you are not, then please be aware that you will get your first blast at around 4:30am!

When we arrived at 3:30pm we were told that our room wasn't yet ready and we thought - "Oh here we go..." but we couldn't have been further from the truth. The staff were amazing from start to finish, nothing was too much trouble. From the printing of maps, to recommendations on where/when to go, plug adapters anything and everything was catered for.

This is a small boutique hotel, ideal for a couple like ourselves who were in Istanbul to explore and wander around, however I would advise you to stay away if you are a wannabe or a WAG as this is not the kind of place you are going to lay around being brought pina coladas.

My only complaint (and I'm aware this is reasonably anal) is that the pillows were quite uncomfortable and interrupted my sleep.

In closing, this is a very good little hotel for people who want the be slap bang in the middle of the Old Town of Istanbul and able to walk to all the major sights in the area.

A unique Turkish experience right in the heart of Istanbul, Hotel Djem. Friendly, delicious breakfast, comfy beds and spotlessly clean.

This is a fine hotel - staff is excellent, breakfast is good, and the location is perfect (but mind the muezzin of the adjacent blue mosque whose call for prayer will wakeyou up at about 4:50 a.m. during summer!). We found, though, our "deluxe" room to have a poor quality/price ratio: For 180 Euros per night you expect much more than a room in an annex building, with a small bathroom and a view over a noisy street.

great welcome -had to wait for the hotel cab for 20 minutes at the airport but then it was good when it came. Welcome was exceptional. we were offered coffee but there was a problem when we accepted as it was only turkish coffee, sugar laden and even when i explained i cannot eat sugar (diabetes) this was a problem throughout the holiday - I never make an fuss about my condition but they clearly do not have the same high numbers of diabetics we have (better diet maybe?) Also had to pass on the complimentary Baklava we were given if we mentioned trip adviser.

The room was lovely and actually sat on the back wall of the Blue mosque. We were able to visit all the really busy sites early before all the tour buses arrived and also relax in the evening after everyone had gone home.

Even with double glazing the hotel was noisy due to the school opposite and it was a narrow lane which all the tour buses chugged slowly up all day - but the friendliness of the staff and the location made up for it. Breakfast was great also. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to people who are not bothered about a pool and can manage hills.

Room Tip: in the annex you are opposite a school and the noise of football being played and the school bell is...
