“Nice Boutique Hotel”
Reviewed March 16, 2014

Where to start? Picked up by private transfer (€40 payable to hotel was way over the rates as we found out so don't book this as it is only 50TL for a taxi from the airport which is approx. €15) Arrived at hotel at approx. 1am to a very enthusiastic receptionist and concierge and we were offered tea and given a map showing us where we were and where all the main attractions were we were then given our key after what seemed like ages and shown to our room. We only had large denomination notes in TL therefore didn't give a tip and facial expressions showed us that there was disappointment. We came down for breakfast following morning which was lovely and plenty food to meet all tastes. We asked the lady at the hospitality desk about the Gallipoli trip and she made a call and told us that a rep would be with us in 10 minutes. Rep arrived and the cost was more that it would have been if we had booked it on the internet however as time was precious we just paid the price. This trip is worth the effort as it is a 4 hour drive to and from Gallipoli from Istanbul. All the main sites are what they say on the tin however make sure you visit the Basilica Cisterns across from the Hagia Sophia they are amazing and you get a chance to dress up. On the morning of our departure I had completed the hotel review and was about to put it into the box at the welcome desk when one of the male managers said No please give it to me and as I was entering into the breakfast area he said why did you only score a 3 (good) on information on reception I was a little embarrassed at this as there were people in the lobby and wasn't expecting an interrogation on my opinion which is what they wanted and I would have had no problem discussing on a one to one. My overall score was excellent and I would recommend. I understand that the hotel and hospitality is a major source of income however with the constant expectation by staff and generally to tipping just for smiling at that stage I almost wanted to change my overall scoring. This hotel was not cheap and the rooms are very comfortable and clean however I believe that the 5 star experience was not prevalent as mentioned by other reviewers (and we have stayed in 5 star hotels) and we certainly did not get any departing gifts as the other reviewers did maybe we just didn't tip enough!!!! Istanbul is fantastic and we will be returning however we will be a lot more prepared the next time. Location of this hotel is great but there are also many other hotels in the vicinity that I am certain also give a very good service therefore on my next return I will research more. I know I have put in a lot of negative comments and this should not reflect the hotel as it is lovely and small and really relaxing and the bed is super comfy - bathroom certainly not what you would have at home but I really liked it.

Small room with view over alleyway. Bathroom tight but otherwise ok. Breakfast varied with pleasant staff serving. Lost count of the times our waffles were snaffled by others, they were good. Good point for sight seeing but don't be tempted to drive in city. Fab restaurant on top floor food alone makes it worthwhile then view to match. Be prepared to be hassled in city and pay over the odds for food. Interesting culture so be open minded

We have not visited Turkey before and were staying in Istanbul for 4 days before flying on to India. A brilliant start to our holiday. We arrived late at night and were greeted well on arrival and offered a drink. Formalities over, we were shown our room which we loved. All the facilities we needed and a very comfortable bed. Cleanliness was top notch in our room and the hotel in general. Breakfast choices were excellent and very informal which we liked. All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful while doing their jobs efficiently. We would have loved to stay longer and would definitely go back. No hesitation in recommending this hotel which is also ideally placed for visiting the Blue Mosque etc, all within walking distance.

I will be recommending this hotel to everyone i know who plans on visiting Istanbul. The service is close to if not of a 5 star standard. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the rooms are spacious and well decorated. Its perfectly located for anybody visiting the city for the first time as its walking distance to all the big historical sites and to the convenient tram line should you wish to leave the old town. If I return to the city I will definitley stay again.

Friendly staff, especially Ms Serap at guest relation. She is good. Cosy room, comfortable bed, reasonable location. Room is small with damp odor for > USD 350 per nite. This is my first stay for three nights in Istanbul and would try other hotel as there are many good recommendation at Tripadvisor.

Sultania is most likely the best hotel you'll find in Sultanahmet, the number of positive reviews have a reason.
The location is ideal, a minute walk to Gulhane tram stop and a few to the major attractions of the old city Agia Sofia, Top Kapi etc.
Rooms are spotlessly clean and so is the whole hotel, breakfast is superb and waiting stuff were efficient.
The decoration of the room was simply GREAT and since it´s always a main reason to choose accommodation we were easily impressed once we got in. There is an ottoman touch everywhere from the sofa to the sink, five star amenities and the room we stayed at 1306 was very very spacious (bathroom was small but that´s ok) with even speakers above our bed. Honestly one of the most well decorated rooms I have ever seen. Tv is a bit small though and the dvd player provided looks outdated.
What needs to be fixed is their elevator which is tiny and we had to walk down the stairs most of the time, but they are working on it I guess. They also charge you for the Hammam and Sauna and that´s due to the number of hotels using the common facilities there.

Last but not least is our impression for the rest of the stuff.
They totally met all our requests and the main guy at the front desk cleared up a misunderstanding regarding our accommodation´s extension within a few minutes.
HOWEVER boutique hotels are not Hiltons or any other 300+ room hotels so maybe they should be more focused to every individual guest and that's something we didn't quite feel.
Our unique Guest Relation, Concierge and Hospitality person there was Semih who communicated welcome with a smile and made us feel like home. They also offered gifts at the time of departure which was a nice gesture.

Overall a unique and unforgetable experience in the city of the cities

I've just returned from a weekend in Istanbul staying at the Hotel Sultania.

The hotel & room were lovely, with nice touches such as complimentary drinks, pastries & Turkish delight on arrival.

All of the staff were lovely and extremely helpful. Helping with directions, tips on how to get around the city and arranging cabs.

On arriving back at the hotel late one night, when the staff realised I was celebrating my birthday, they brought out into the reception area the most delicious birthday cake with candle and sang happy birthday!

We had drinks in the roof top restaurant at the hotel next door (great views but slow service).

Room had a interesting bathroom arrangement with the door to the en suite doubling as the shower door, which took a few moments to work out.

Great central location - walking distance to the Aya Sofia, Blue Mosque, cisterns and grand bazaar.

Would go back to Istanbul and stay in this hotel again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony.
